The opportunity…
The Senior Data and Analytics Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, maintaining and optimising data warehousing solutions, data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes. This role ensures the reliability, scalability and availability of data to support analytics, reporting, business intelligence and data products. The Senior Data and Analytics Engineer collaborates with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable and secure data solutions and data products, enabling data-driven decision-making across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities:
Data and Analytics Engineering and Operations:
- Design, develop and maintain data warehousing solutions, including lakehouse, data pipelines, ETL/ELT processes, databases and queries, to collect, store and manage data from various sources.
- Collaborate with the Data Operations Manager, IT Infrastructure and other relevant stakeholders to design and implement robust, scalable and secure data architecture solutions and data integration processes.
- Monitor and optimise data tools, data integration, data storage and retrieval solutions and processes, ensuring high performance, reliability and scalability.
- Design, develop and maintain data models, schemas, metadata and databases to deliver scalable and secure data solutions to support analytics, reporting and data products.
- Collaborate with data scientists, analysts and other relevant stakeholders to understand data requirements.
- Monitor, modify, optimise and troubleshoot data pipelines, resolve data-related issues and provide ongoing support to analytics and other business teams.
- Conduct testing and quality assurance.
- Create and maintain updated comprehensive, user-friendly documentation (for all data engineering and operations processes, requirements, design, testing, user guide, etc.), ensuring clarity and adherence to established workflows and guidelines.
- Apply best practices and stay abreast of emerging industry trends and technologies in data and analytics.
- Continuously seek and implement innovative improvements to enhance the efficiency, scalability, performance and reliability of data tools.
Data Governance and Quality Operations:
- Adhere rigorously to data security and governance policies, frameworks and best practices to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and internal policies & practices.
- Ensure data accuracy, consistency and integrity through robust data quality management practices.
- Develop and maintain data engineering, operations and governance frameworks and documentation, including data stewardship activities.
- Develop and maintain data cataloguing and business glossary.
Other Responsibilities:
- Proactively assist in the resolution of service incidents, conflicts or discrepancies in data by identifying root causes, ensuring timely and effective communication with affected stakeholders.
- Support the Data and Analytics team colleagues’ technical capability development, ensuring a shared understanding of tools and technologies and how these may be leveraged to support the team and business goals.
- Assign tasks to junior team members, while monitoring output and reviewing work to enable high quality delivery.
- Assist with onboarding and orientation of new team members where applicable.
- Promote a culture of collaboration and innovation, ensuring team engagement and alignment of work to the Data & Analytics Strategy and business priorities.
- Exhibit flexibility to work beyond standard operating hours in response to emergency situations or scheduled system maintenance to ensure uninterrupted operations and the prompt resolution of critical issues.
- Support the line manager and ad hoc tasks as required.

Experience required:
Essential
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data disciplines, Business, Computer Science or any related field.
- 7+ years experience in data and analytics engineering activities: design, build, maintain and optimise data warehousing solutions, modern lakehouse and data architecture, data integration, data pipelines, data mapping, data structures, SQL queries and databases.
- Experience in implementing scalable ETL/ELT processes and modelling data for BI, Data science and Data Product consumption.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, SQL and/or other data querying languages.
- Working knowledge of cloud data platforms such as Microsoft Fabric, Azure, DevOps and Power BI.
- Experience with Git repos, CI/CD, version control, testing automation.
- Experience with medallion architecture, data warehousing principles and big data technologies.
- Experience with digital platforms and Microsoft Office Suite, advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements related to data governance, protection and data privacy regulations.
- Solid time management skills and ability to work well in cross-functional teams and prioritise tasks.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
- Quick learner, with high attention to detail, diligence, consistency and accuracy.
- Strong work ethic, proactive approach with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Ability to meet deadlines and to work under pressure.

Desirable
- Knowledge of machine learning, AI, Power Platform.
- Certification in data management or data governance (e.g., DAMA CDMP, DGSP, CIMP).
- Experience with business intelligence, data analysis and data visualisation tools (e.g. Power BI).
- Familiarity with project management and Agile methodologies.
- Microsoft Fabric Analytics Engineer Certification – DP 600.
- Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst Certification – PL 300.
