AbbVie Development Sciences (Dev Sci) is an integrated, cross-functional R&D organization that includes CMC (Process R&D, Drug Product Development and Analytical R&D), Biological Sciences (Preclinical Safety and Drug Metabolism, Pharmacokinetics & Bioanalysis) and Clinical Drug Supply Management functions responsible for the development of small molecule pharmaceuticals and therapeutic biologics from Discovery Candidate Selection through late stage clinical. The Data & Digital Strategy core team within Development Sciences defines and executes our data and digital strategy in collaboration with Dev Sci subject matter experts and Information Research (IR). The Data & Digital Strategy team partners cross-functionally to build and maintain a data and systems architecture that enables world-class knowledge management, data analytics and predictive modelling capabilities. We are looking for diverse candidates with a blend of product development, informatics and data systems experience who can help advance our data and digital capabilities


Purpose


Conceive, design and implement new tools that solve significant scientific or business problems through the integration, visualization, and analysis of large and complex data. Work closely with science team to understand scientific needs, and generate new proposals based on those needs, and lead the efforts to bring the proposals to fruition. Investigate, identify, develop, and optimize new methods, algorithms, and technologies to derive novel, competitive insights from disparate data sources, or to drive productivity and efficiency gains. Act as a lead data scientist in area of expertise and critically evaluate relevant scientific and technological advances and integrate this knowledge into new solutions to drive science.


Responsibilities

  • Conceive, design and implement new solutions that solve significant scientific or business problems through the integration, visualization, and analysis of large and complex data. Demonstrate the ability to resolve key project hurdles and assumptions by effectively utilizing available information and technical expertise.
  • Demonstrate high proficiency across a wide range of technologies related to the storage, transfer, integration, visualization, and analysis of large and complex data sets. Broad expertise in machine learning, software development, data warehousing, and statistics.
  • Demonstrate deep knowledge of the pharmaceutical and healthcare business, with a particular
  • focus on the science done in CMC Development, and utilize this knowledge in the rapid
  • advancement of impactful solutions.
  • Operate independently with guidance or oversight from a supervisor when needed.
  • Proactively seek out new information and technologies in the literature/public domain and
  • incorporate into individual project(s) as well as the overall program
  • May mentor/supervise a team of one or more and guide and evaluate the performance of those
  • individuals; is accountable for the effective performance of the team/individuals.
  • Understand and adhere to corporate standards regarding applicable Corporate and Divisional
  • Policies, including code of conduct, safety, GxP compliance, and data security.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education and typically 12 years of experience, Master’s Degree
  • or equivalent education and typically 10 years of experience, PhD and typically 4 years of
  • experience.
  • Strong background in machine learning (ML) modeling for scientific applications
  • Excellent written and oral English communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a global environment with teams at multiple sites.


Preferred:

  • The ideal candidate brings a blend of strong scientific experience in the biotech/pharma industry
  • and excellent IT skills.
  • Background and experience in CMC Development data and workflows a strong plus, including
  • but not limited to toxicology, pathology, and pharmacokinetic data and workflows.

  • This opportunity has remote flexibility if located within the United States. If on-site, this position is to be located at AbbVie's North Chicago campus.
  • ​Leveling will be commensurate with experience.
  • The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.​
