The SWE1 will assist the contractor technical lead and customer in the development and maintenance of the SDK for AI Security & Risk Metrics. The candidate will perform work with a team within the AI Security Center to research, develop, build, test, deploy, and document cutting edge tools for robust security testing and monitoring of AI systems for the IC, DOD, NSS owners, and the Defense Industrial Base.This position is ideal for motivated individuals with foundational software engineering knowledge, a passion for AI and cybersecurity, and a willingness to learn and grow in a dynamic, mission-critical environment.
Due to federal contract requirements, United States Citizenship and position appropriate security clearance is required. (e.g. Active TS/SCI security clearance with agency appropriate polygraph).

Capabilities

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop secure and scalable software solutions supporting AI applications and tools.
• Write, test, and maintain high-quality code in accordance with best practices and project requirements.
• Assist in identifying and resolving software vulnerabilities and optimizing system performance.
• Support the integration of AI systems with existing platforms, ensuring seamless functionality and compliance with security standards.
• Document technical specifications, code changes, and development workflows for internal and external stakeholders.
• Participate in code reviews, team meetings, and training sessions to ensure continuous improvement and adherence to project goals.
• Stay informed about emerging technologies, security trends, and AI advancements to inform development efforts.
• Analyze user requirements to derive software design and performance requirements
• Debug existing software and correct defects
• Provide recommendations for improving documentation and software development process standards
• Design and code new software or modify existing software to add new features
• Integrate existing software into new or modified systems or operating environments
• Develop simple data queries for existing or proposed databases or data repositories
• Write or review software and system documentation
• Serve as team lead at the level appropriate to the software development process being used on any particular project
• Design or implement complex database or data repository interfaces/queries
• Develop or implement algorithms to meet or exceed system performance and functional standards 
• Assist with developing and executing test procedures for software components
• Develop software solutions by analyzing system performance standards, confer with users or system engineers; analyze systems flow, data usage and work processes; and investigate problem areas
• Modify existing software to correct errors, to adapt to new hardware, or to improve its performance
• Design, develop and modify software systems, using scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure outcome and consequences of design

Required Qualifications

• TS/SCI with agency appropriate poly
• Seven (7) years experience as a SWE, in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity is required.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline from an accredited college or university is required.
• Four (4) years of additional SWE experience on projects with similar software processes may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree.

Required Technical Skills

• Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following topics: Counter AI, Collection, Reverse Engineering, Large Language Models (LLMs), Generative AI, Prompt Engineering, AI “Chat bots”, Adversarial Machine Learning
• Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following languages: Python, Java, Kotlin, R, Julia, JavaScript, C/C++, Golang, Rust, SQL, Bash
• Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following frameworks/concepts: Kubernetes, ArgoCD, HashiCorp Vault, Use of Hardware Security Models (HSMs), Encryption and Decryption, Key management and generation, Integration of Credentials management Systems, Transport Layer Security (TLS), Git, Secure Software Development Framework (SSDF), Scikit-learn, Pytorch and/or Tensorflow, Adversarial-rebustness-toolbox (ART), LLM Repositories e.g. HuggingFace

Desired Technical Skills

• Knowledge of AI security frameworks, Agile
• Certificate in AI or Machine learning
