Job description

Varjo is seeking a talented and passionate Principal ML Imaging Engineer to join our growing team. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and implementing cutting-edge machine learning algorithms to enhance the visual quality and realism of our mixed reality experiences. You will work closely with our engineers and researchers to push the boundaries of what is possible in VR/XR, contributing to the development of next-generation mixed reality headsets that deliver unparalleled immersion and fidelity. This role is based in our Helsinki office with hybrid work options available. If you are located elsewhere, we will provide support with relocation.

What you’ll be doing

• Enhance our mixed reality experience by strategically applying machine learning models and techniques.
• Deliver innovative mixed reality features that leverage the rich sensor package in our headsets.
• Develop, fine-tune, and integrate machine learning models.
• Develop data pipelines to support ML model development and fine-tuning.

Our expectations

• Prior experience in applying machine learning to image processing or image enhancement. Real-time applications are a bonus.
• Deep understanding of imaging pipelines, spanning from camera sensors to ISP and software processing.
• Practical and stepwise approach to tackling complex and ambiguous problems.
• Ability to deliver high-quality production code. Our codebase is mostly C++, with tooling in Python.
• Ability to work cross-functionally to understand and define goals for technical work.
• Interest to mentor and disseminate knowledge, acting as a force multiplier in the team.
