National Grid is hiring a Platform Owner, Data & Analytics.  This is a hybrid position open to our offices in Waltham, MA, Syracuse, NY or Brooklyn, NY.

Job Purpose

As a Platform Owner, you will have the additional responsibility of overseeing data and analytics platforms. You will be accountable for the end-to-end delivery and operation of your service(s), setting the direction for design and development, including vision, strategic themes, PI & Solution roadmaps.

 

By guiding delivery towards maximizing the flow of value to customers through perceived Business Value, OKRs, and KPIs, you will ensure alignment with the strategy set by the Platform Lead and enable the organization to achieve its goals. Additionally, you will set policies and guidelines related to the platform strategy, manage relationships with stakeholders, drive innovation capabilities, and contribute to our vision of being a leader in the industry by leveraging emerging technologies to drive growth and success. We are primarily a Snowflake and Azure shop.

Key Accountabilities

Lead Service mission and success
•    Co-create and maintain the service's mission, roadmap, and backlog, with a specific focus on data and analytics platforms.
•    Prioritize work through a well-organized backlog, ensuring that tasks related to data and analytics platforms are clearly communicated and completed within the defined timelines.
•    Lead the review of demos, provide feedback, and guide adaptations, with a particular emphasis on data and analytics platform requirements.
•    Manage and monitor all interactions with managed service providers and drive work with them to ensure they are meeting all required delivery targets, SLAs, and performance objectives.
•    Assist the Product Owner in elaborating Themes, Initiatives, and Epics into User Stories that are granular enough to be achieved in a single sprint, focusing on data and analytics platform considerations.
•    Ensure the platform's scalability, efficiency, and security, collaborating with Chapter Leaders to align on best practices, standards, and coordinating with the Platform Technical Lead for data and analytics.
•    Assure platform performance through monitoring, analyzing, reporting, and, if necessary, remediating platform performance, with specific attention to data and analytics platforms.
•    Partner with Chapter Leads to address resourcing and functional expertise requirements within the team, including those related to data and analytics platforms.
•    Manage the platform within budget guardrails, aligning with company priorities and goals, while meeting sanction/regulatory commitments on time and within budget for data and analytics platforms.
•    Collaborate with Transversal teams to develop Regulatory and Sanction content aligned to the strategy and roadmaps, with consideration for data and analytics platform requirements
Co-create, prioritize and communicate the backlog
•    Provide input during workshops for Team Iteration Backlog grooming, considering business value and risks, particularly related to data and analytics.
•    Communicate the vision and goals at the beginning of every Release and Sprint, ensuring the team remains aligned with these objectives, including those related to data and analytics
•    Represent the voice of the customer, reviewing outcomes iteratively and providing feedback, specifically regarding data and analytics considerations.
•    Define high-level backlog items, emphasizing Themes and Initiatives, with a clear definition of done, prioritizing them accordingly, and considering data and analytics requirements.
•    Translate senior management requests into backlog items, ensuring a well-defined definition of done, and prioritize them accordingly, taking into account data and analytics needs.
Enable service teams to deliver based on value
•    Ensure that Platform/Team solutions are continuously integrated, deployed, and released on demand, specifically considering data and analytics requirements.
•    Ensure successful integration and deployment of outcomes, with a particular emphasis on data and analytics considerations.
 

Qualifications

•    BS/BA degree or higher in a technical discipline in the US, or the UK equivalent.
•    7 or more years of relevant experience.
•    3 or more years of people management experience with relevant industry and professional certifications.
•    Experience in strategic technology leadership, IT infrastructure, analytics, and outsourcing management.
•    Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, including articulating complex ideas and influencing in a matrix environment.
•    Experience with working with managed service providers that provide data center capabilities and resources to manage the data centers.
•    Strong understanding of data architecture principles, including data warehousing, data lakes, and data fabrics, to design and implement scalable and efficient data solutions.
•    Proven experience in managing and optimizing data warehousing solutions, particularly with tools like Snowflake, Databricks, Amazon Redshift, or Google BigQuery.
•    Hands-on experience in data engineering practices, including ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes, data integration, and data pipeline development using tools like Informatica,      Matillion, or Apache NiFi.
•    Exposure in using AI and machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Scikit-learn to develop and deploy machine learning models that leverage data from the platform.
•    Knowledge of Snowflake's capabilities for data science and machine learning, including the use of Snowpark for building and deploying machine learning models directly within the Snowflake environment.
•    Experience with Azure Machine Learning services to design, train, and deploy machine learning models, as well as integrate them with data pipelines and analytics workflows within the Azure ecosystem.
•    Knowledge of data analysis and visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or Looker to
enable effective data-driven decision-making across the organization.
•    Proficiency in cloud-based data platforms and services, particularly in environments like Azure, AWS to leverage cloud capabilities for data storage and processing.
•    Knowledge of data governance frameworks, data quality management, and compliance regulations
•    Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, manage projects, and drive initiatives related to data platform development and implementation
•    Familiarity with data fabric concepts and technologies that enable seamless data integration and accessibility across various data sources and environments.
•    Strong analytical skills to assess data needs, identify opportunities for improvement, and solve complex data-related challenges within the organization.
•    Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders, manage relationships, and advocate for data-driven strategies and initiatives.
•    These qualifications and experiences will equip a Data Platform Owner to effectively manage and optimize data warehousing, data fabrics, data engineering, and data analysis tools within a large enterprise.

MA: $179,000 - 211,000 a year

Downstate NY: $ 192,000- 226,000 a year

This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills. Internal candidates will be assessed and provided offers against the minimum qualifications of this role and their individual experience.
