About the Job

Are you ready to shape the future of medicine? The race is on to speed up drug discovery and development to find answers for patients and their families. Your skills could be critical in helping our teams accelerate progress.

The Commercial Process Development team, part of the CMC Synthetics Platform within the Sanofi R&D organization, is responsible for mid-to-late-stage process development for drug substances undergoing clinical development and for the chemical process to deliver the drug substance quality target profile. The Chemical Process Development team owns the eco-design strategy for the drug substance and, in collaboration with Analytical Sciences, Process Engineering and Clinical Manufacturing/External Technologies, defines the control strategy for the drug substance synthetic process. We strongly believe that innovation in synthetic concepts and technologies, leveraging modeling, AI/ML and integration of biocatalysis are key drivers to transform drug substance process development to deliver drug substances in the most efficient, robust, economical, environmentally benign, and intrinsically safe way.

We are looking for a highly motivated and collaborative individual with synthetic chemistry training and experience with building and integrating digital solutions to join our Process Chemistry team at the Senior Scientist level. This position is tasked with expanding and optimizing Sanofi’s Synthetics computational chemistry toolbox and AI/ML platforms to provide end to end support for the synthetics drug substance development value chain. The ideal candidate will be passionate about automation and efficiency and possess a proven track record of building and deploying computational chemistry tools to explain and rationalize experimental results and constructing predictive models to efficiently optimize synthetic and enzyme-catalyzed transformations.

We are an innovative global healthcare company with one purpose: to chase the miracles of science to improve people’s lives. We’re also a company where you can flourish and grow your career, with countless opportunities to explore, make connections with people, and stretch the limits of what you thought was possible. Ready to get started?

Main Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, and deploy software for physics-based atomistic modeling and machine learning applications.

  • Implement automated workflows for computational modeling and data analysis, serving as a bridge between experimentalists and computational tools.

  • Develop machine learning tools for molecular property prediction, reaction modeling and optimization, incorporating technologies such as active learning and Bayesian optimization to guide experimental design.

  • Utilize Density Functional Theory (DFT) and related methods to find mechanisms influencing reaction outcomes, assess reaction feasibility and calculate molecular properties.

  • Collaborate closely with process chemists, process engineers, and data scientists within the CMC Synthetics organization and beyond to ensure efficient and effective integration of computational strategies with experimental objectives.

  • Support route scouting discrimination with metrics to identify high impact route proposals and flag high risk disconnections.

  • Support high-throughput experimentation screening designs and kinetic model development.

  • Provide concise technical presentations to project teams, cross functional teams and management.

  • Document project work comprehensively maintaining high standards of scientific and technical reporting.

  • Champion continuous improvements through pursuit of scientific and technical innovations, workflow optimizations, and incorporation of digital tools.

About You

  • Ph.D. in organic chemistry with computational modeling experience

  • Knowledge in at least one of the following areas: advanced analytics, flow chemistry, high throughput experimentation, lab automation.

  • Experience in chemocatalysis or biocatalysis including characterization of catalytic processes and/or mechanistic analysis.

  • Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience in the management of internal scientists and/or subcontractors.

  • Ability to operate with flexibility in a dynamic environment and with tight deadlines.

  • Strategic and innovative thinker with a track record of fresh insightful thinking by developing creative approaches to processes and practices.

  • Post-doctoral experience.
