Position Overview
This position is responsible for management of the Information Technology (IT) data strategy. The incumbent will provide oversight of all data management and security activities and will be responsible for developing and implementing IT data security policies, procedures, and guidance designed to reduce risk; monitor data usage, storage, and compliance; and implement controls to prevent vulnerabilities with the department’s data.

Essential Functions
- Manages the department’s data security activities, ensuring every effort is taken to properly identify, catalog, store, and protect the data.
- Develops and implements IT data security policies, procedures, and guidelines designed to reduce risk and monitor data usage, storage, compliance as well as implement controls to prevent vulnerabilities with the department’s data.
- Ensures existing data warehouses and new implementations comply with industry data security regulations such as HIPAA, Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCIDSS), and GDPR.
- Develops and updates the department’s data security policies and procedures, conducts internal compliance reviews, and works with staff to enhance the department’s security posture.
- Plans, coordinates, and executes data security projects and initiatives as well as ensures alignment with the department’s goals and objectives.
- Leads and supervises data security teams, provides training, and mentors data security staff ensuring new implementations are compliant with industry data security regulations.
- Provides training and guidance to all departmental staff on best security practices.
- Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Completion of a bachelor’s degree majoring in information technology, computer science, management information systems, or business management plus three years of experience developing data security policies and programs; working with data security, data center infrastructure, operating systems, networks, or security system information; or working in IT service management; or a combination thereof OR Eleven years of experience developing data security policies and programs; working with data security, data center infrastructure, operating systems, networks, or security system information; or working in IT service management; or a combination thereof
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with management of incident response and risk assessment
• Possession of data security certifications such as Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) or Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC)
• Strong understanding of security trends and technologies
• Excellent communication and training skills
• Experience developing and documenting security procedures, policies, and practices
• Excellent analytical skills
• Supervisory experience
