Occupational Summary
The Duke Center for In Vivo Microscopy (CIVM) is recruiting a Data Manager to support magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) research for basic research. Our team is advancing this state of the art magnetic resonance histology, microscopic MRI of tissue specimens. .
The Data Manager will play a central role in managing and maintaining a variety of data used in support of research projects and clinical studies. The position will support multiple aspects of day-to-day lab operations, including coordinating analysis and QC of incoming datasets, data archival and retrieval, generating reports, and creating population-level datasets for statistical analysis. We acquire multiple scans per week which need to be processed and summarized to external stakeholders on an ongoing basis, so the Data Manager must have an attention to detail, good interpersonal skills, and the ability to track multiple deadlines and priorities.
There will also be opportunities to assist in data acquisition, develop new data analysis software tools, and assist in larger projects in data analysis and quantification. Candidates should be versatile, creative, and enthusiastic about scientific research.
Work Performed - Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate small team of analysts to ensure timely processing of incoming data. Perform regular QC and update status dashboards. Ensure data is stored properly for future retrieval. Perform image analysis as needed.
- Compile and store non-imaging study meta data from other sources (e.g. clinical measurements, demographic data) for use in creating analysis datasets
- Combine MRI and non-imaging data into study-level datasets for statistical analysis as needed
- Develop programs and scripts to streamline and automate various aspects of image analysis and data retrieval
- Assist with administrative work and project management for clinical studies with external sponsors
- Generate reports and figures from data as needed to support grants, publications, etc.
- Maintain and improve shared data and documentation infrastructure (network drive, Box, Slack, etc)
- Develop and participate in additional research projects as schedule and opportunities permit
Required Qualifications
Education/Training
Work requires an Associates in Computer Science or equivalent technical training, or non-technical Bachelor degree. A Bachelor’s degree in physical sciences, engineering, mathematics, statistics, or computer science is highly preferred.
Experience
2 years data management, research or medical experience.
Or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
Preferred Skills:
The ideal candidate will demonstrate hands-on experience with data management and coding in R, Python, and/or MATLAB. Experience with SQL is a plus. Experience with quantitative image analysis is also particularly desirable.

Anticipated Pay Range:
Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $ 43,888.00 to USD $70,300.00. Duke University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position; candidate' s work experience, education/training, and key skills; internal peer equity; as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
