We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Data Scientist to join our Commercial Analytics team. You’ll be building end to end data science solutions to solve some of AXA Commercial’s toughest problems and deliver significant business value. It’s a really exciting time to join as you’ll leverage our cloud-based data lake, design our advanced machine learning and AI models and influence the business in respect of its understanding and use of data.
At AXA we work smart, empowering our people to balance their time between home and the office in a way that works best for them, their team and our customers. You'll work at least 40% of your week away from home, moving to the majority of your working week from September 2025. Away from home means either attendance at our Bristol, Bolton or Manchester office locations or attending industry events. We’re also happy to consider flexible working arrangements, which you can discuss with Talent Acquisition.
What you’ll be doing:
- Develop and implement data science solutions to resolve key business challenges, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery.
- Contribute to the analytics inventory, helping keep it updated and refreshed with new use cases.
- Identify opportunities or business problems that can be effectively addressed using data science.
- Be a primary point of contact for data science projects, facilitating meetings and communications with stakeholders.
- Sell the vision of advanced analytics and data-based decision making to wider stakeholders, managing engagement with both technical and non-technical teams.
- Keep up to speed with latest trends in the market and ensure AXA Commercial Analytics are leading the way.
- Help develop, roll out and drive data science strategy and standards across team.
- Support and mentor junior members of the team.

What you’ll bring:
- Proven experience in data science or statistics, with strong software engineering skills and a demonstrated ability to deliver projects from start to finish.
- Proficiency in handling large datasets and using tools such as Apache Spark, TensorFlow, PyTorch within cloud environments like Azure, AWS, or GCP.
- Strong experience with SQL and Pandas or PySpark for data manipulation and analysis.
- Experience with Generative AI technologies such as GPTs and other LLMs and MLOps tools such as MLflow.
- Advanced Python skills and knowledge of machine learning frameworks.
- Proven track record of delivering data science solutions that drive significant, measurable business value.
- Previous experience in collaborating with cross-functional teams at multiple levels.
- Passion for data science and a commitment to mentoring junior team members, with the ability to work well in a fast-paced, innovative environment.
- Leadership of data science projects and a familiarity with Databricks are highly desirable.
