How You Will Contribute:

As the Lead for Data Quality and Data Catalog, you will be responsible for overseeing and driving the implementation of data quality and data catalog initiatives across the organization. You will work closely with business functions and IT teams to ensure the successful execution of data quality processes, policies, and standards. This role will play a crucial part in ensuring high data quality and the effective use of data catalog tools to support business operations and decision-making.
Partner with Business Teams:

  • Collaborate with data owners, stewards, and business leaders to identify data quality and data catalog needs and priorities.
  • Act as a liaison between business units and IT teams to ensure a unified approach to data quality and data catalog project execution.
  • Provide guidance and support to business units and departments on data quality best practices, data classification, data retention, and data lifecycle management.

Drive Project Execution:

  • Lead and manage the execution of data quality and data catalog projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
  • Develop and maintain project plans, timelines, and budgets.
  • Track project progress, identify and mitigate risks, and escalate issues as needed.
  • Ensure adherence to project methodologies and best practices based on the needs of the initiative.

Change Management:

  • Identify and assess potential impacts of data quality and data catalog projects on business processes and stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement change management plans to mitigate resistance to change and ensure successful project adoption1.
  • Communicate the benefits of data quality and data catalog initiatives to stakeholders and address their concerns.

Communications:

  • Develop and deliver clear and concise communication materials to stakeholders, including project updates, presentations, and training materials.
  • Effectively communicate project status, risks, and issues to project stakeholders and leadership.

Metrics for Success:

Work closely with business and IT partners to define key metrics for data quality and data catalog initiatives. Ensure these metrics align with organizational goals and priorities.

  • Data Quality Improvement metrics to establish and drive initiatives aimed at improving data accuracy, consistency, and completeness.
  • Data Catalog Utilization metrics to increase the adoption and effective use of the data catalog, ensuring it meets their needs and supports decision-making.
  • Stakeholder Satisfaction: Engage with stakeholders to gather feedback and measure satisfaction with data quality and data catalog initiatives. Use this feedback to continuously improve processes and outcomes.

The Must Haves:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in business administration, Information Systems, project management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in data quality, data management, data governance or related fields, with a demonstrated track record of successful project delivery. Candidates must be able to show their experience with respect to the responsibilities mentioned in the "How You Will Contribute" section.
  • Good understanding of data management principles, including data quality, data stewardship, data privacy, and data security. Familiarity with relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Proficiency with data quality tools (e.g., Informatica Data Quality, Talend, IBM InfoSphere) and data catalog tools (e.g., Collibra, Alation, Informatica Axon).
  • Ability to understand business challenges and translate them into data-driven project requirements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proven ability to build strong relationships and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a data-driven approach.
  • Experience with project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall) and tools. Agile mindset and good understanding of MVP / iterative development is desired.

Assets:

  • Experience within Hi-Tech / Telecommunication specific industry/domain such as Supply Chain, Accounting, Sales, Services, etc.
  • Proficiency with data quality tools (e.g., Informatica Data Quality, Talend, IBM InfoSphere) and data catalog tools (e.g., Collibra, Alation, Informatica Axon).
  • Knowledge of data governance frameworks and methodologies, including data stewardship, data lineage, metadata management, and data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).

Pay Range:

 The annual pay range for this position is $129,400 - $206,600. 

Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.

Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
