As an independent, nonprofit organization for public interest energy...This student internship position will provide support to EPRI’s Advanced Building and Communities research area. Projects and tasks would include support for data analytics (including data scrubbing, data quality review, data analysis, and coding), support on project activities that investigate how emerging building technologies and distributed energy resources perform; and/or technical writing about smart buildings and connected community projects. The position will be a combination of technical tasks and project coordination tasks. The Buildings Student Intern will work with EPRI R&D team members as well as other organizations and stakeholders while contributing their knowledge in building science and analytics to current ongoing projects and technology transfer. This position will provide experience in a combination of technical and project management tasks to develop subject matter expertise in building science, building efficiency and smart cities.
Position requires working with the team in person in the EPRI Palo Alto office.
Required Qualifications:
Team player willing to work in cross-functional teams on various aspects of the advanced buildings and communities space.
Self-starter that can work with a highly technical staff in completing specific task under supervision
Strong attention to detail with strong documentation skills of methodology as well as results
Communication skills willing to present technical results and updates to team members
Experience and/or coursework focused on building science and/or building energy efficiency
Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, and other Microsoft tools
Experience with web-programming languages such as HTML/CSS as well as some experience with Python, C++, etc. is a plus
Willingness to learn building modeling software such as Energy Plus, BeOpt, etc.
Experience with machine learning methods, data visualization, and dashboard development would be a plus
Must be enrolled in an accredited university, pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree with a strong preference for candidates pursuing Engineering, Building Sciences, Environmental Science, or Architecture.
Minimum of 2-3 years of college courses completed prior to hire.
California resident is required.
Must be able to work in-person at the EPRI Palo Alto office, schedule TBD at the time of hiring.
Ideal Candidate:
Understanding or interest in learning about building science and energy, which includes energy efficiency, demand flexibility, solar and energy storage technologies, sustainable construction practices, and management
Experience with website maintenance/development as well as data visualization and dashboard development.
Strong technical writing skills with the ability to clearly document and explain quantitative and qualitative results in technical reports
Strong communication skills, willing to present data analysis results succinctly
The hourly rate range for Student positions are:
- Undergraduate: $16-29 per hour
- Masters: $25-31 per hour
- Ph.D: $27-34 per hour
These ranges are an estimate, and the actual hourly rate may vary based on various factors, including without limitation applicant's education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The hourly rate may also be adjusted based on applicant's geographic location.
As an EPRI Student, you will not participate in EPRI’s Benefit Programs which includes health insurance, retirement benefits, vacation, sick leave (except as set required by law) and holiday pay. However, as a Student employee you are eligible for the benefits of Social Security, State Disability Insurance, and Workers’ Compensation Insurance.
For Student positions which require one to relocate to an EPRI office. Relocation assistance is not provided and the student will be responsible for covering all relocation costs/expenses.
EPRI participates in E-Verify, an online system operated jointly by the Department of Homeland Security and the Social Security Administration (SSA). EPRI uses the system to check the work status of new hires by comparing information from the employee's I-9 form against SSA and Department of Homeland Security databases.
