The Opportunity:

Search, Discovery and Content Intelligence (SDC) technology is a critical part of Adobe’s product capabilities – offering AI-powered Search, Browse, Recommendations, RAG assistive workflow capabilities, and conversational agents. Adobe’s products are all about creating amazing multimedia and multimodal rich content. Creative professionals, enterprise users, and novice users alike need quick access to their digital assets, ingredients, style libraries, and the wide variety of creative content they work with every day, from brushes to colors, images, design assets, videos, and audio. Users need to discover contextually inspirational rich media content, assets their teams have created or from Adobe Stock’s digital marketplace, Adobe community content and more. 
 
The SDC team powers Search, Recommendation and Assistive experiences in flagship Adobe products, including Adobe Express, Stock, Photoshop, Illustrator, Lightroom, Acrobat, and Adobe.com. We focus on developing innovative AI-powered search, recommendations, and assistive experiences using generative AI technologies across all modalities, including text, image, and videos, and creating industry-leading experiences to improve creative efficiency for creators, marketers, and designers. We leverage and fine-tune LLMs, vLLMs, transformers, vector search and RAG, transformer relevance models, and neural agents to power our innovative technology stack. 
 
We are looking for a Senior ML Scientist with deep hands-on expertise in AI powered information retrieval (IR), recommender systems with focus on ranking Multi-modal content. 

What You’ll Do:

• Build and Scale AI-Powered Information Retrieval Capabilities: Construct scalable, multimodal, and multilingual search and discovery systems to improve the discovery experience in Adobe's flagship products.
• Develop Innovative Ranking Models: Build brand new ranking models using technologies like Transformers, Multi-modal Embeddings, and LambdaMART. Optimize these algorithms for relevance and performance.
• Collaborate with Core Services and Integrations: Work closely with product engineering teams to integrate ranking models within RESTful services. Measure quality through offline and online evaluation systems and AB tests.
• Improve retrieval quality with embeddings and vector search.
• Data-Driven Insights and Analytics: Use data analytics to evaluate system performance, understand user feedback, and drive continuous improvements.

What you will bring:

• At least 8 years of hands-on experience in building large-scale search and recommendation rankers using advanced technologies like Transformers and Language models.
• Deep expertise in search relevance, ranking, and retrieval systems, including vector search and multimodal data handling.
• Strong programming skills in Python, and familiarity with frameworks like PyTorch and TensorFlow.
• Experience with ElasticSearch, HBase, Kafka/SQS, and real-time processing frameworks like Apache Storm.
• Knowledge of advanced concepts such as Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG), multimodal search, and neural agents.
• Proven ability to develop scalable, fault-tolerant systems and GPU-based processing pipelines.
• Strong analytical skills with a passion for bringing to bear data to drive decisions and improvements.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several  U.S. geographic markets, and we pay differently based on those defined markets. The U.S. pay range for this position is $142,700 -- $257,600 annually. Pay within this range varies by work location and may also depend on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for the job location during the hiring process.

At Adobe, for sales roles starting salaries are expressed as total target compensation (TTC = base + commission), and short-term incentives are in the form of sales commission plans.  Non-sales roles starting salaries are expressed as base salary and short-term incentives are in the form of the Annual Incentive Plan (AIP).

In addition, certain roles may be eligible for long-term incentives in the form of a new hire equity award.
