ASDA are undergoing a vast technology transformation, reworking all technology driving the whole business. The Data team are redesigning the entire data platform, presenting an excellent impact and growth opportunity for a talented platform engineer.  

The Data team implements products to support colleagues of all professions and levels across the organisation. Our offerings impact business transformation, strategic business decision making and external reporting. 

As a lead engineer you will be responsible for the technical outputs of the Data Platform engineering teams; ensuring robust, secure and scalable solutions are delivered to our technical and non-technical customers.  You will work directly with product, platform architects, solution architects and engineers to establish and execute platform technical roadmaps.

In this role, you will:  

  • Coach and mentor team engineers to maximise their potential, promote career growth and enable innovative thinking.  

  • Develop and execute a platform engineering roadmap, aligning technology with business objectives.  

  • Establish and maintain best practices for platform management, engineering and security, ensuring quality and integrity.  

  • Work with the Lead Engineering Community to define and embed industry best practices and principles into everything you and your team(s) do.  

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to establish requirements and deliver solutions to support engineering, business analytics and reporting initiatives.  

  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies and tools to enhance data engineering capabilities.  

  • Play a key role in hiring and onboarding new team members, contributing to the growth and development of the department.   

  

What We Are Looking For  

  • Have a background in building, maintaining and operating quality, highly scalable and performant platform products.  

  • Have a good understanding of Microsoft Azure tooling, preferably with hands-on experience.  

  • Have extensive experience with Databricks.  

  • Experience in working with Agile frameworks such as Scrum, Kanban, Lean.  

  • Excellent communication skills with ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical business stakeholders. 

  • Have experience leading and mentoring Engineers.   

  • You will be proactive, resilient with strong leadership skills and an excellent team player.
