- Work on comprehensive, value-added project(s) that help enhance the fields of science and technology
- Collaborate with teams/colleagues in a fast-paced environment
- Gain professional development & build relationships with peers from across the country
Key responsibilities:
- Work closely with senior machine learning scientists to develop, implement, and test machine learning models for NLP/Gen AI applications.
- Analyze large clinical datasets and apply ML techniques to extract meaningful insights. Participate in the creation of pipelines for data processing, model training, and evaluation.
- Assist in the development of algorithms and tools that contribute to clinical data understanding, clinical trials, and research.
- Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams, including ML scientists, products, and engineers, to translate research into practical solutions.
Anticipated Summer Project(s):
- Project #1: This project focuses on building a patient-specific knowledge graph to represent and continually update clinical timelines, leveraging large language models (LLMs) for both relationship extraction and graph traversal. You will design and implement a prototype that ingests unstructured notes and structured EHR data, compares graph-based timelines against direct summarization, and explores incremental approaches to keep these graphs current. By the end of the internship, you’ll demonstrate how LLMs can enrich the discovery and querying of patient data in a single, dynamically updated knowledge graph.
- Project #2: This project aims to leverage the complementary strengths of traditional NLP and LLMs to retrieve and synthesize key medical information from multimodal clinical datasets with high degrees of accuracy. The core objective is to develop an integrated ensemble system capable of efficiently processing and extracting actionable insights from a diverse range of clinical data including unstructured text, images, structured tabular data, Eand HRs.
