Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group (MAPMG) invites applications for a Research Data Analytics Summer Intern to join our Research department. This position is a full-time, 40 hours per week, internship opportunity based out of our regional office located in Washington D.C. with a hybrid work model. Reporting to the Director of Research Analytics, the Research Data Analytics Summer Intern will assist in the collection, cleaning, analysis, and interpretation of research data. You will collaborate with senior researchers and data scientists to design, plan, and implement automated reporting solutions, while ensuring consistency, accuracy, and clarity of data visualizations and reports. This internship offers valuable hands-on experience with a range of analytical tools, research methodologies, and data management practices. You will have the opportunity to contribute directly to impactful healthcare research, while helping to enhance reporting solutions that drive data-informed decision-making.
You can expect to:
- Collaborate with the Director of Research Data Analytics at the Mid-Atlantic Permanente Research Institute (MAPRI) to develop, implement, and automate reporting solutions for a variety of disease registries (e.g., diabetes, sickle cell disease, hepatitis, HIV) by working with stakeholders on design, planning, and implementation, ensuring consistency and coherency
- Summarize, analyze, and organize data by creating summary statistics, developing visualizations, and building interactive Business Intelligence (BI) reports using Tableau and/or Power BI, ensuring results are clearly communicated to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Identify reporting needs and recommend enhancements to existing solutions, while also preparing clear documentation to ensure consistency in data presentation
- Transform and synthesize structured and unstructured data using SQL, Python, Excel, and other analytical tools, optimizing data structure, performing calculations, and packaging it for end-user consumption
What is required:
- Must be a current student enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master’s Degree in Data Science, Statistics, Public Health, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or a related field; Recent college graduates are ineligible for the internship program
- Strong understanding and hands-on experience with data analysis techniques and statistical methods, as well as proficiency in SQL for data querying and manipulation
- Proficiency in Python or R for data cleaning, analysis, and automation, along with advanced skills in Excel (e.g., complex formulas, pivot tables, and data functions)
- Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau or Power BI, and the ability to create clear, actionable reports and visualizations
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to synthesize and interpret large datasets and effectively communicate findings to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, with a keen attention to detail in ensuring data accuracy and report clarity
- Must be available to work full-time, 40 hours a week, for a minimum of 12 weeks
- Must be able to commute to the Washington D.C. regional office as needed
- Candidates must either currently live in or be willing to relocate to the Washington D.C. metropolitan area
- Must provide documentation of the Covid vaccine 2-dose series (or J&J 1-dose) prior to October 1, 2023, or documentation for 1-dose of the most current Covid vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna) as a condition of employment
- Must provide documentation for the influenza vaccine as a condition of employment
The starting hourly rate for this position ranges from $20.00 to $25.00, which considers an applicant’s skills and qualifications, certain degrees and prior job experience, training, market data, and other relevant factors. Internships are non-exempt positions and are not eligible for employee benefits.
