Role & responsibilities

• Design and develop robust, high-performance backend services and APIs in Java, Kotlin, or Python for Cognite Data Fusion, an industry-leading SaaS platform.
• Work with advanced database technologies, leveraging PostgreSQL and Elasticsearch to build and improve our industrial knowledge graph.
• Collaborate closely with application teams to craft user experiences that empower customers to solve intricate, real-world problems.
• Engineer scalable, resilient solutions built on modern open-source technologies and Cognite’s cutting-edge data infrastructure.
• Partner with stakeholders and domain experts, contributing to critical product and technical decisions to shape the future of our platform.

What We’re Looking For

• Extensive Experience: 2-5 years of backend engineering with primary language either Java, Kotlin  or Python in product-focused or SaaS companies, ideally at scale.
• Flexible across tech stacks: Experience in Java / Kotlin is a strong plus for Python-primary programmers, experience in Python is a strong plus for Java-primary programmers. Prior experience with Spark is a great plus.
• Modern Data Expertise: Proven track record working with contemporary database technologies (PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch) and a passion for graph processing, distributed systems, and performance optimization.
• Code Quality & Best Practices: You write well-structured, maintainable code, ensuring a high-quality codebase through continuous review and improvement.
• DevOps Mindset: Practical experience with CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, and building, testing, deploying, and monitoring software in Kubernetes-based multi-cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure).
• Observability & Diagnostics: Strong troubleshooting skills with hands-on experience in analyzing logs, metrics, and traces. Familiarity with Prometheus, Grafana, or similar tools is a plus.
• Open-Source Collaboration: Comfort contributing to and learning from the open-source ecosystem.
• Communication & Collaboration: Clear communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively across diverse, globally distributed teams
