Our team and mission
ESA’s Evaluation Office is part of the Internal Audit and Evaluation team, within the Director General’s Services. We are a cross-functional team, composed of highly skilled professionals. The team is in charge of the planning and implementing the continual improvement actions of the Agency’s management practices. We leverage internal and external competences in: evaluation, advanced data analytics, process assessment and design, lean management and digital transformation to facilitate the changes required for the Agency to maintain and improve its competitive advantage.
The Evaluation Team is providing consultancy service to ESA management aimed at:
- Improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the Agency’s activities.
- Assessing and advising on the business models of the Agency and of its directorates, identifying opportunities for optimisation
- Supporting the transformation of the Agency by conducting independent analyses and benchmarks,
- Advising process owners on business process optimisation and supporting their implementation, as required
- Assessing and advising on the evolution of corporate databases and fostering the implementation of data mining techniques, AI and automation for the optimisation of business processes; providing benchmark services to directorates
- Building the Digital Twin ESA, which is a digital replica of the whole management system of the Agency
Field(s) of activity/research for the traineeship
The Evaluation Office is a unique environment to start the professional career of an ESA Graduate Trainee, offering the opportunity to actively work on the processes that govern an international organisation.
As an EGT, you will perform the following activities as required by the evaluation projects, including:
- Performing advanced data analytics from internal and external data sources, as well as from unstructured data (e.g. text, written reports) to identify areas for evaluation in ESA, and to help establishing performance measurements, internal or external benchmarks.
- Creating visualisations using Power BI to create impactful presentations
- Re-engineering of management processes at Agency and Directorate level, focusing on their streamlining and digitalisation
- Drafting clear reports on evaluation findings and recommendations

Education
You should have just completed, or be in the final year of your master’ s degree in data analytics, data science, mathematics, statistics, economics, computer science or business
Additional requirements
You should have good interpersonal and communication skills and should be able to work in a multicultural environment, both independently and as part of a team. Previous experience of working in international teams can be considered an asset. Your motivation, overall professional perspective and career goals will also be explored during the later stages of the selection process.
It is also expected that the selected EGT will possess at least one of the following skills:
Programming skills (e.g. Python, SQL, R)
Data, AI or Prompt Engineering skills
Data Warehousing skills
Knowledge of MS Azure and MS Power (e.g. Power BI, Power Apps)

The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset.
