Position Summary

We are growing our team and seeking a Quantitative Research Associate to join our Research team. This position reports to the Senior Director of Research. 

In this position, the Quantitative Research Associate is principally responsible for leading original quantitative research projects that advance the case for electrification. They will lead partnerships with Rewiring America teams (Policy, Communications, etc.) to develop bespoke analyses using the electrification cost & benefit models built by the Data Science team. 

The Quantitative Research Associate plays a pivotal role in the Research Team’s mission to produce community-level research and tools that communicate the holistic benefits, costs, and opportunities of electrification. Recent quantitative research projects have included analyzing the workforce and health impacts of electrification; using internal models to determine which households to include in community electrification pilot programs; and developing a new tool that allows internal stakeholders to explore the benefits of electrification (e.g., bill savings, carbon emissions reductions, energy savings) at the state, county, or city level. The Quantitative Research Associate will lead similar projects. 

What You’ll Do

Big picture, the Quantitative Research Associate will:

  • Build and expand your working knowledge of the broad set of challenges and impacts of electrification, while developing expertise in selected areas of interest.
  • Manage relationships with internal stakeholders, including the Policy Team, the Communities Team, and the Communications Team, organizing the work required to effectively serve their research needs while managing team priorities
  • Center equity in your work and collaborate with internal experts to understand and internalize the needs of the communities we serve.
  • Support, advise, and provide feedback to other team members. 
  • Contribute to code review, fact-checking, and other quality control activities for teams across Rewiring America.

Day-to-day, your role will be to: 

  • Ideate, scope, and lead original research projects in new subject matter areas as the quantitative expert. 
  • Conduct swift and thoughtful ad-hoc analyses to meet the dynamic needs of the organization and our partners.
  • Lead the development of new tools that allow internal & external stakeholders to quantify Rewiring America’s progress toward meeting our goal of electrifying everything for everyone.
  • Determine the best channels and formats for communicating the results of original research projects, and synthesize analytical results clearly.

Core qualifications: 

  • Strong commitment to the mission, policies and goals of Rewiring America.
  • Collaborative work style, especially with both technical and non-technical partners.
  • Facility with technology to support remote team work.
  • Development experience with Python, Spark, R, SQL, or similar tools, and ability to quickly learn new coding languages, analytical tools, and database structures (most of our existing code is in Spark & Python). 
  • Demonstrated communication ability across formats with skill in delivering information in a concise and compelling manner.
  • Ability to translate undetermined analytical needs into well-defined analytical tasks, execute on them, and independently communicate status updates to all stakeholders. 
  • Content knowledge in climate, renewable energy, and/or building electrification.
  • Experience leading independent research projects end-to-end.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent work experience.
  • Excellent references demonstrating a strong track record in research & analysis, communication, and teamwork.
  • 5+ years of experience working in a team environment related to research, analysis, and/or data science.
  • Experience with GIS and/or data visualization and BI tools. 
  • Experience with collaborative code such as GitHub, methodology reviews, and the ability to provide thoughtful, constructive feedback to peers.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $80,000–$110,000 USD, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

  • Full Time Employees will receive 160 hours of vacation time, 80 hours of health leave, up to 2 days of casual leave, and 24 hours of volunteer leave annually. 
  • Employees will also receive 11 paid holidays throughout the calendar year (13 days during Presidential and Congressional elections). 
  • We have an office closure between Christmas and New Year. 
  • Regular, full-time employees and part-time employees are eligible to take up to sixteen weeks of parental leave, in all cases related to birth, adoption, or foster care starting from the first day of employment.
