What you will be working on:

As the Lead Data Scientist/Data Science Manager for Computer Vision, you will lead a team of AI Engineers and Data Scientists focused on AI experimentation and capability development covering modalities such as videos and images as well as extending into the audio space. These key AI capabilities help in enhancing the understanding of diverse information domains. You will set the strategic direction, foster innovation, and build the foundation for cutting-edge AI solutions while collaborating with stakeholders to ensure alignment with organisational needs.

  • Lead and mentor a team of AI Engineers and Data Scientists, creating a collaborative environment that fosters innovation and professional growth.
  • Set clear objectives for the team, ensuring alignment with organisational goals and strategic priorities.
  • Lead the uplifting of computer vision as well as multimodal AI capabilities across the whole of government through the development of new AI capabilities, definition of best practices and adoption of new AI capabilities by agencies.
  • Define and execute a strategic roadmap for AI capability building, emphasising computer vision and multimodal AI.
  • Guide the team in conducting advanced AI experiments, exploring innovative approaches to address public sector challenges.
  • Drive the adoption of emerging AI techniques, staying abreast of advancements such as Vision Language Models (VLMs) and Large Multimodal Models (LMMs).
  • Engage with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to identify needs and align AI capabilities with organisational and public sector objectives.
  • Build partnerships with academia, industry, and other government agencies to foster a vibrant ecosystem for AI capability building.
  • Provide high-level technical direction and oversight, ensuring the team’s work meets quality standards and is grounded in best practices.
  • Advocate for the adoption and integration of AI capabilities by showcasing their potential impact through prototypes and demonstrations.

What we are looking for:

  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 8 years of experience in AI/ML preferably in the field of Computer Vision, including 2+ years of proven leadership in managing multidisciplinary technical teams.
  • Deep understanding of computer vision techniques, including object detection, object tracking, image segmentation, and image understanding.
  • Familiarity with multimodal AI systems that integrate data from sources like images, video, and audio.
  • Proficiency in frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, and computer vision libraries like OpenCV.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in working with state-of-the-art models, including Large Multimodal Models (e.g., CLIP, GPT-4o, Qwen-VL, LLaVA, InternVL).
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and manage a diverse team of engineers and data scientists.
  • Excellent communication skills to translate complex AI concepts into actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to craft and execute strategies for advancing AI capabilities.
  • Awareness of ethical and governance considerations related to deploying advanced AI capabilities in the public sector.
  • Strong ecosystem awareness, including collaboration with research institutes and MNCs, to foster innovation and align with industry best practices.
