We are looking for a full-time Data Analyst, Short-term Power to join Wood Mackenzie’s Power Solutions team in Gurugram, India. The team’s research spans power market fundamentals and price forecasting to asset valuation and strategy that comprises some of the most highly utilized data, reports, and insights across Wood Mackenzie. Our broad industry knowledge and deep understanding of the North American power market are unparalleled and help our clients succeed during the energy transition. The team comprises industry experts who are detail-oriented, intellectually curious, commercially savvy and have strong technical abilities.
The Data Analyst will play a key role in advancing forecasting and modelling efforts by managing, analyzing, and optimizing large datasets across Short-term North America power markets. This role contributes directly to improving forecasting accuracy and enhancing the company's energy and congestion analytic capabilities. The successful candidate will have a strong interest in data analytics and the power industry. Your interest in power markets proves you hold these characteristics and are comfortable taking complex, disparate ideas and distilling them into simple, actionable analytics.
Responsibilities
Support of tools and models that include spatial, data visualization, and power flow applications to identify and solve problems in the power industry;
Develop/run regional support workbooks and report templates and continuously improve the level of granularity provided to the team and customer;
Improve current processes by automating critical tasks using macros (visual basic/Python/SQL);
Liaise with developers and data collection teams to improve efficiency and expand analytical capabilities;
Ensure the highest standards of data quality and availability are met and maintained for use by the team and broader organization;
Support and streamline digital certificate access for market analysts and the wider organization;
Manipulate large datasets and determine correlations and relationships between potential market drivers, prices, and events;
Develop an understanding of energy market fundamentals to improve analytical capabilities further;
Provides specialist skills in data analysis, visualization, and data management;
Occasionally interact with clients via phone, email, or other appropriate means;
Prepare client-facing content on a timely and accurate basis;
Present the teams with research projects & presentations on relevant topics and improvements to processes and methodology as requested.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in economics, data science, computer science, mathematics, or a related field.
1–3 years of experience in data analysis, including handling large, complex datasets
Experience in using programming languages such as SQL, Python, Visual Basic, or comparable languages
Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Sisense, Power BI)
Preferred previous experience or demonstrated interest in power vertical
