We study how people reason and make judgments about rules (e.g., legal rules, rules in sports), rule breaking, and what makes people curious to learn more about moral agents, especially those who act in ways that surprise us. To do this, we use a combination of methods, including online experiments, economic games, surveys, analysis of big public data sets, neuroimaging (on occasion), and computational modeling all to increase understanding of moral and rule cognition. This position will be split between research-related duties (e.g., subject recruitment, task and stimulus design, data collection, processing and analysis) and administrative duties (e.g., IRB documentation, creating data processing protocols, experimental material preparation, undergraduate training and supervision, website maintenance). The position is geared toward motivated individuals interested in pursuing an advanced degree or career in psychology in the future, as it will also offer the opportunity to develop independent research projects with the possibility of publication.
This is a full-time (39 hours/week) benefits-eligible, one-year term appointment with possible extension contingent on successful performance and availability of funding.
Required Qualifications:
- Associates degree and up to two years of relevant experience or equivalent combination.
- Coursework and research experience in social or moral psychology, statistics, behavioral economics, or another related field.
- Excellent time management, organizational, interpersonal, communication, and independent problem-solving skills.
- Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications:
Helpful, but not required:
- Degree in psychology, cognitive science, statistics, or related fields
- Basic statistical experience (using R, python) and some programming skills
- Some experience collecting and analyzing data
- Desire to pursue a career in psychology and manage independent research projects
