Software Engineer

As we continue to push the boundaries of what is possible, building robust, scalable, and efficient software infrastructure is essential to unlocking the full potential of our technology. We're seeking a Software Engineer to design and develop Profluent’s data information platform, enabling seamless integration, processing, and accessibility of our laboratory derived datasets. This role is vital in ensuring that our software infrastructure can support high-performance machine learning and data-driven biological discoveries at scale.

As an early team member, you’ll play a pivotal role in architecting and implementing both the frontend and backend systems that power our platform. You will have the autonomy to make critical decisions about software frameworks, cloud infrastructure, and data management strategies, directly influencing the success of our mission. This is an excellent opportunity to shape the future of AI-driven protein design and to work cross-functionally with a diverse team of experts across machine learning, protein engineering, cell biology, and gene editing.

Responsibilities

• Develop user-facing applications to give scientists access to custom-built software
• Develop automated, cloud-based workflows to perform ETL of experimental data from various sources
• Build scalable cloud pipelines for analysis of Illumina sequencing datasets (NGS)
• Develop intuitive and interactive data visualizations
• Design and implement relational database models
• Work closely with experimental and computational biologists to perform user-testing
• Clearly document code and communicate outcomes to colleagues

Qualifications

• BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or a related field
• 5+ years experience in full-stack web development
• Track record of building intuitive and scalable web applications and backend infrastructure from scratch
• Experience with backend web frameworks (Django, Flask, or similar)
• Experience with frontend development; knowledge of modern frameworks (React, Vue, or similar) is a plus
• Experience with relational or NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, BigQuery)
• Experience with cloud computing (GCP preferred)
• Fluent in Python data analysis tools (numpy, pandas, Jupyter notebook, biopython)
• Experience with version control (git) and CI/CD pipelines

• Experience developing scientific software
• Interested in the intersection between biology and AI

Actual salary will be determined based on relevant skills, qualifications, experience, training, and market data. Benefits package may vary depending on company policies and eligibility criteria.

Hiring Salary Range$150,000—$205,000 USD
