We need an experienced Data Architect, who is not afraid to try new things, whilst maintaining the over-riding purpose of why we exist – which is to realise value (quickly) from our data and support the company in achieving it’s 2030 Strategy

The role will lead our Data Engineering capability in accelerating the pace of data availability and making architectural recommendations to support that increased pace.   This is an opportunity to make a name for yourself and the Data function at BMW Financial Services

  • Design and develop data structures, models and frameworks, ensuring re-use, consistency and speed of data availability.
  • Design, maintain and document key database schemas and inter-dependencies within the Enterprise Data Model.
  • Support and help implement Data Governance best practices, under the guise of “Just Enough” Data Governance
  • Develop and maintain specialist knowledge of the transactional and Enterprise Data Model databases and data lake/warehouse concepts, design principles, architecture, and software.
  • Analyse strategic data architecture requirements from the existing transactional system landscape and those arising from new software and applications.
  • Lead the process of preparation of source data in a suitable structure (semantic layer) for consumption by visualisation tools and analytic processes.

What should you bring along?

  • Significant experience developing in AWS architecture is essential.
  • Significant experience in building, evolving Data Warehouse/Lake environments in AWS
  • Real world experience of working as a Data Architect across Industry (not just Financial).
  • Strong experience of data modelling (from conception to optimisation), and of the design and management of Enterprise Data Models on the AWS Platform,
  • Experience of managing and facilitating significant technological change.
  • Experience with the full cycle of software development and with working with third-party and offshore delivery teams.
  • Have the ability to convey why complex data work needs to be done to someone in the business and help them understand the “why”.
  • Experience of working with compliance and regulation in a Financial Services environment would be an advantage.
  • Excellent SQL, Python and other data wrangling techniques.
  • Past experience in core Data Architecture skills such as Data Analysis, Data Mining, Data Profiling, Data Modelling (ERD, Dimensional), Data Warehouse Design (Kimball, Inmon), Big Data Design (Lambda, Kappa), Predictive Analytics, Data Lifecycle management, Data Integration patterns and methods.
  • In depth knowledge of AWS Big Data Storage Strategies and Technologies and knowledge of some of the following AWS services: Athena, Glue, Lambda, Step Functions, S3, Neptune, SDLF, etc
  • Detailed understanding of relational databases and database structure principles.
  • Ability to design and implement ETL and ELT processes.
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision, handle quickly changing priorities, and be capable of managing yourself to achieve maximum results.
  • Strong technical skills, with the ability to problem solve and design innovative technical solutions that meet challenging and sometimes conflicting requirements.
  • Knowledge of data management and governance principles including Master Data Management.
  • Ability to inspire, support, encourage and enable curiosity in data.
