Position Summary

The Senior International Data Strategist role is a key leader within the Data Strategy & Analytics (“DSA”) department at the NBA. The role will manage the league’s international-focused Customer Relationship Marketing practice that will transform the NBA’s interaction with international fans, deepening engagement, driving revenue and creating a lifetime love of the game.  This multi-faceted role will be focused on data strategy, by identifying and sizing fan data capture opportunities, overseeing the implementation of those opportunities via marketing and partnerships, maximizing the utilization of the data by delivering engaging experiences and content, and quantifying the value of the data captured.  

 

Major Responsibilities

  • Manage a team with two direct reports supporting the NBA’s offices in international regions in collecting fan data and deploying that data to grow the connection with its international fans
  • Oversee the build and maintenance of data infrastructure focused on facilitating the ingestion of international fan data
  • Create and execute the data strategy for how to support regional offices in the growth and engagement of their fan bases
  • Deliver actionable insights and interpretations of data to our international marketing and partnership teams
  • Consult directly with leadership within regional offices on data-related topics surrounding key tentpole events (e.g., NBA House activations, NBA Global Games, etc.) including representing DSA on-site at these events to ensure data is collected and ingested as expected
  • Partner with stakeholders across international markets to use data, technology, and marketing channels to grow their businesses
  • Own baseline goals and forecasts for growth against data-driven metrics


Required Education/Professional Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in technical or quantitative field required
  • 8+ years of experience in a technical marketing operations capacity
  • 3+ years of managerial experience overseeing technical resources
  • Experience with international business preferred with international sports business experience a plus
  • Experience with Agile methodology
  • Experience writing business requirements / tickets in technical project management software (e.g., Jira)
  • Hands-on experience with cloud-related technology and tools
  • Hands-on experience with database management


Required Skills/ Knowledge Attributes

  • Advanced SQL programming skills required with expertise in other coding languages preferred
  • Expertise in Microsoft Excel required and proficiency in data visualization tools preferred
  • Understanding of marketing operations processes, data management, and technology implementation
  • Expert at problem-solving and critical thinking
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully navigate cross-functional teams and prioritize competing needs
  • Champion the use of data driven marketing techniques across international markets

 

Salary Range: $135,000 - $160,000
