Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 18 years of experience leading infrastructure engineering teams with geographical footprints.
- 18 years of experience leading technical innovation within distributed systems.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience in lifecycle data rollouts at scale, promoting product excellence and collaboration.
- Experience motivating others at all levels by creating a shared outlook and purpose.
- Experience managing an organization through change.
- Expertise with highly scalable systems, with a focus on distributed systems, data, and concurrency.

About the job
The Analytical Storage team within Google's Data Analytics and Insights (DANI) organization is responsible for the analytical storage systems, Sawmill, Napa and Google's recommended feature store for ML training, which manage large volumes of event level data and aggregated views Google depends on.
Sawmill is a distributed large-scale system that allows for the collection, storage, and management of business-critical event records and makes them available for business analysis in a manner that respects our users' privacy, and complies with Google policy. Napa is Google’s Exabyte-scale, multi-homed, distributed data warehouse that is optimized for high-throughput data ingestion and aggregation.
As the Senior Director of Analytical Storage, you will be responsible for this critical portfolio of production systems, both building and helping operate them. You will partner and collaborate with Google’s largest and most critical product areas at the center of our AI efforts including Google Deep Mind, Ads and Search, in support of extending our technology to meet the needs of ML practitioners doing LLM training. In this role, you will lead the strategic direction for Sawmill, including moving it off of its legacy code-base and private cluster deployment model to a modern stack and public clusters.The Core team builds the technical foundation behind Google’s flagship products. We are owners and advocates for the underlying design elements, developer platforms, product components, and infrastructure at Google. These are the essential building blocks for excellent, safe, and coherent experiences for our users and drive the pace of innovation for every developer. The US base salary range for this full-time position is $323,000-$465,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities
- Lead the engineering organization responsible for the Analytical Storage product portfolio.
- Provide the outlook, strategy, and execution to continue to enhance components and build new ones where needed to expand Google’s analytical storage capabilities.
- Scale the systems, either rebuilding/supporting the existing Google wide platform, or building new services to meet the needs of stakeholders across Google, including partner teams within Search, Ads, YouTube, Geo, Cloud, etc.
- Staff, develop, and grow talent through hiring, mentoring, development, and coaching. Balance staffing and work across geographies to maximize impact for investment.
- Build and support a culture of inclusion and belonging, where engineering excellence, quality execution, collaborative teamwork, and innovation are both expected and rewarded.
