Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group (MAPMG) invites applications for a Data Analyst Summer Intern to join our Medical Office Controller department. This position is a full-time, 40 hours per week, internship opportunity based out of our regional office located in Washington D.C. with a hybrid work model. Reporting to an Associate Medical Office Controller, the Data Analyst Summer Intern will assist in making data-driven strategic decisions by analyzing, manipulating, and presenting data that will directly support MAPMG’s operations. You will gain hands-on experience with data systems and reporting tools, develop insights that drive business decisions, and work with experts across the organization. You will work on real-world projects, contributing to the development of analytical infrastructure, and gain hands-on experience in data analysis tools such as SQL, Python, Excel, and Tableau in a healthcare setting.

As an intern, you can expect to:

  • Data Analysis & Reporting: Utilize SQL, SAS, Python, Excel, and Tableau to analyze complex data and generate reports for internal stakeholders. Support the monthly reporting process with financial data programs and ETL tasks
  • Strategic Consulting: Serve as an advisor to MAPMG Leadership by structuring undefined issues for resolution, analyzing data, summarizing findings, and collaborating with relevant stakeholders to ensure timely decisions
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Develop and maintain strong business relationships with key internal stakeholders, including management, senior leaders, medical office controllers, and data users, to understand their needs and provide data insights
  • Data Infrastructure Development: Assist in the development and maintenance of analytical infrastructure, including database tables, views, ETL programs, and Tableau reports
  • Knowledge Expertise: Become a go-to resource for financial data within the organization, helping stakeholders interpret results, fulfill data requests, and improve reporting infrastructure
  • Timely Delivery: Ensure the delivery of high-quality, accurate data analysis and reports within established deadlines

What is required:

  • Must be a current student enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master’s Degree in Data Science, Analytics, Computer Science, Business, Finance, or a related field; Recent college graduates are ineligible for the internship program
  • Must be available to work full-time, 40 hours a week, for a minimum of 12 weeks
  • Must be able to commute to the Washington D.C. regional office as needed
  • Must either currently live in or be willing to relocate to the Washington D.C. metropolitan area
  • Must be able to travel to various Kaiser Permanente Medical Centers within the Washington D.C. and Suburban Maryland (DCSM) service area; Having a personal vehicle is highly recommended due to the locations of some of the medical centers and the nature of the role
  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in SQL, Python, Excel, and Tableau
  • Experience with financial data analysis, ETL processes, and reporting tools is a plus
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present data findings clearly to stakeholders at various levels of the organization
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects while delivering results on time
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Must provide documentation of the Covid vaccine 2-dose series (or J&J 1-dose) prior to October 1, 2023, or documentation for 1-dose of the most current Covid vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna) as a condition of employment. Must provide documentation for the influenza vaccine as a condition of employment

The starting hourly rate for this position ranges from $20.00 to $25.00, which considers an applicant’s skills and qualifications, certain degrees and prior job experience, training, market data, and other relevant factors. Internships are non-exempt positions and are not eligible for employee benefits.
