Application Deadline: Monday, February 24 (we will review applications on a rolling-basis)Duration: 4 months Positions Available: 1Start Date: Monday, May 5For this exciting position, we are specifically targeting students who have a background in geoscience, geology, geochemistry, data science or a related fields. As part of the Teck’s Exploration and Geoscience Services Group, the Geoscience Co-op will have the opportunity to contribute to key data-driven geochemistry-focused initiatives. Working with a team of domain experts that applies the fundamental principles of geochemistry to generative exploration workflows, there is a phenomenal opportunity to better understand Teck’s orebodies within the Discovery Excellence group. The primary objective of this role is to compile a whole-rock and mineral chemistry database and geochronology database. A secondary objective is supporting the evaluation of these datasets for prospectivity for different deposit types. Through this role, we can provide an excellent opportunity to improve data analysis and data compilation skills while gaining valuable insights into generative exploration. The ideal candidate is keen to deepen their understanding of the application of geochemistry for area selection and prospectivity on a regional scale in magmatic-hydrothermal systems and equally keen on machine learning and data science. If you are not currently located in the area of this co-op position, you must be willing to either commute or relocate to the surrounding area for the entire duration of the co-op term.. You must also currently be a student enrolled in a Canadian post-secondary institution and will be enrolled throughout the duration of the co-op term (you will also be returning back to the post-secondary institution once the co-op term is completed). Responsibilities

  •  Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures   
  • Data compilation, data wrangling, and data validation  
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify relevant data gaps and potential sources for data acquisition  
  • Collaborate with geologists and the team to integrate geoscience data into exploration models and targets  
  • Work with team members to validate key datasets  

Qualifications

  • Working toward relevant degree program such as geoscience, geology, geochemistry, data science or a related field.   
  • Skilled at conducting comprehensive literature reviews and compiling data effectively.   
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel and proven understanding of ESRI GIS products such as Arc Desktop Pro and Arc on-line.   
  • Understanding of orebody geology and mineral systems is an asset  
  • Strong statistical and data interpretation, as well as data management skills.   
  • Data wrangling skills in a coding environment such as R or Python are considered a strong asset.   
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and written and verbal communication skills.   
  • High degree of initiative, self-motivation, accountability and independent judgment  
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment  
  • Results oriented with excellent organizational, planning and decision-making skills  
  • Understands how to get things done through formal channels, using key practices, policies and procedures to achieve objectives  
  • Can focus on priorities, set objectives and goals, measure performance and objectively evaluate results
