Actuarial and Advanced Analytics Senior Consultant - (Climate-Risk)
Sydney, Australia
Job Description
At KPMG Australia, we work with some of the most exciting, innovative and important businesses in Australia. We have entered an exciting period of growth, and we are looking for incredible and diverse individuals to join our supportive team in Australia.
Job Description
The KPMG Actuarial and Advanced Analytics team is a trusted advisor delivering innovative actuarial and high-end data science services and products to both government and private sector clients.
One of the core growth areas for the team is the rapidly expanding field of climate and nature risk. We work with organisations to quantify their climate risks and opportunities (both physical and transition), using actuarial-based techniques to risk modelling. To date we have worked with organisations across a range of industries including government, finance, agriculture, construction, energy and utilities both in Australia and internationally. In each case, we aim to deliver tangible and actionable risk insights which drive the climate and transition strategies of our clients and support local and overseas reporting requirements.
With rapidly escalating demand for climate risk quantification, we are looking for talented people with a strong actuarial (or similar analytical) background and a passion for climate risk. They will play a crucial role in continuing to expand our climate risk quantification offering, developing new and innovative solutions and reaching a broader client base.
We offer career development through an extensive support and mentoring network and will require a drive to innovate.
Your opportunity
- Work closely with partners, directors and other experienced staff in multidisciplinary teams to solve client problems
- Have client facing opportunities and be involved in whole projects not just tasks, giving you the opportunity to gain a broad understanding of wider business issues
- Contribute to capability development and internal knowledge sharing through identification of emerging themes, problems and opportunities
- Use insight to present compelling stories that deliver tangible value to clients
- Apply actuarial and data analytics skills to help our clients better understand their climate risk exposures, model impacts, evaluate the impact of strategic initiatives and plan for a resilient business future
- Refine your technical skills by building complex geospatial probabilistic models
- Develop and implement new client offerings, leveraging the latest technology and KPMG’s alliance partnerships
How are you extraordinary?
- You love being part of a collaborative and multidisciplinary team and building strong relationships both internally and externally.
- You are tuned in to business development opportunities, with confidence creating effective sales material including proposals, case studies, and other sector-specific material.
- You are able to digest, distil, and communicate complex concepts in both written and verbal forms.
- You are passionate about the climate and the energy transition and are excited to help make a difference for organisations as they adapt to the changing climate.
Experience
For this role, you will ideally have:
- Experience working in actuarial and/or data analysis
- Interest and experience in applying actuarial and data analytics skills outside of traditional actuarial areas of work, especially related to climate risk
- Commercial acumen to proactively identify and understand business needs and be able to suggest impactful solutions
- Ability to translate complex actuarial or analytical insights and/or outcomes into presentations (written and verbal) to senior stakeholders (both internal and external)
- Practical experience in Excel, Python, R, and SQL
- You have a passion for using technology, data and analytics to maximise the value actuaries can bring to organisations, and an ability to manage multiple tasks at the same time.
- You want to be a consultant and be passionate about making a difference to your clients, progressive in your thinking and willing to invest in your own career and develop in a supportive team environment.
