Using modern programming languages and technologies, this Intern - Software Engineer, will develop code in support of our innovation for grid optimization as it relates to electric vehicles, photovoltaic systems, batteries, and other devices. This intern will impact Itron’s outcomes business and will have the opportunity to learn and grow with innovative Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) technology within Microsoft Azure. 

Duration

40 hours per week during summer 2025. The target start is May/June, and the internship concludes August/September, depending on student academic schedule.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Design and execution of code to support product integration

  • Participate in product design reviews to provide input on integration of functional requirements, product designs, and forecasting 

  • With support, analyze and decompose complex software systems and collaborate with and influence others to improve the overall design

  • Develop and support the testing of product features throughout the entire development cycle

  • Collaborate frequently with data team and project stakeholders

Required

  • Education: enrolled in an accredited and related degree program with completion of at least one year of college-level coursework (preference for Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Engineering, Data Science, or related)

  • Programming experience in C#, Python or related languages

  • Working knowledge of databases

  • Working knowledge of version control systems (ideally Git)

  • Ability to effectively articulate technical challenges and solutions

  • Strong documentation skills

  • Professional workplace communication skills

  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a group

  • Ability to work on a globally distributed team

Preferred

  • Experience working in an Agile development environment

  • Knowledge of standard enterprise level software development life cycles

  • Experience working with relational databases like SQL Server or PostgreSQL

  • Experience with Azure, Azure DevOps, Databricks and/or Apache Spark

Physical Demands

This is a typical office job, with no special physical requirements or unusual work environment.

This position will be tied to our Liberty Lake, WA location with hybrid work flexibility of 1-3 days on-site per week.

Liberty Lake, WA: $15.87 - $44.23 per hour
