Job Description

Your Career

As a Principal Data Scientist - LLM, you will drive data security solutions using cutting edge ML / GenAI / LLM solutions. You will design, research and deploy models for classifying data in varying environments and under unique constraints. Collaborate with teams who will utilize the results of the models for multiple cybersecurity requirements. You will work closely in a team of Rust/Python engineers & data analysts in order to deploy and optimize.

Your Impact

  • Supercharge data security protection by developing solutions helping clients understand what kind of data they have, and where

  • Make significant contributions to feature development by engaging in design, implementation, testing, and deployment processes

  • Design and implement LLM-based solutions to solve data security challenges, from research to production

Qualifications

Your Experience

  • 7+ years of hands-on data science experience, including developing, training, and deploying custom ML models, especially LLMs

  • Proficiency in Python and ML frameworks (e.g. TensorFlow, PyTorch, JAX) with experience in fine-tuning, optimizing, and deploying transformer-based models (GPT, BERT, LLaMA, etc.)

  • Familiarity with tools like Hugging Face Transformers, OpenAI APIs, LangChain, or other LLM toolkits

  • Ability to design custom LLM architectures to address domain-specific challenges or business needs

  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Mathematics or a related field

Nice to have:

  • Experience with Rust / C / C++

  • Expertise in optimization techniques for machines with limited memory, such as: Quantization (e.g., INT8, FP16), Pruning and model distillation, Offloading layers or using memory-efficient optimizers

  • Experience running LLMs on edge devices with constrained resources (e.g., mobile devices, IoT platforms) and offline settings

  • Experience with retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) for integrating external knowledge sources into LLMs.

  • Experience with at least one cloud provider and its services (e.g GCP, AWS, Azure)

Additional Information

The Team

Our engineering team is at the core of our products and connected directly to the mission of preventing cyberattacks. We are constantly innovating — challenging the way we, and the industry, think about cybersecurity. Our engineers don’t shy away from building products to solve problems no one has pursued before.

We define the industry instead of waiting for directions. We need individuals who feel comfortable in ambiguity, excited by the prospect of a challenge, and empowered by the unknown risks facing our everyday lives that are only enabled by a secure digital environment.

Our Commitment

We’re problem solvers that take risks and challenge cybersecurity’s status quo. It’s simple: we can’t accomplish our mission without diverse teams innovating, together.

We are committed to providing reasonable accommodations for all qualified individuals with a disability. If you require assistance or accommodation due to a disability or special need, please contact us at  accommodations@paloaltonetworks.com.
