As data engineering manager Risk & Finance domain, your role is integral to NN Bank's goal of becoming a data-driven organization. Your team of data engineers will work on developing and maintaining critical data solutions such as data lakes, the central data factory, data marts, risk modeling, and data analytics platforms.

These data solutions are essential for the finance & risk domains to run regulatory and investor reports, steer the balance sheet, and run risk models. Additionally, the data in the lakes and the data analytics platforms serve as the foundation for customer-facing domains to monitor and optimize their processes and provide valuable insights.

Your role as a data engineering manager will be crucial in ensuring that these solutions are robust, cost-effective, and compliant with regulations and policies. You will work closely with product owners, your team and other stakeholders to drive innovation and improve efficiency, ultimately contributing to NN Bank's overall success as a data-driven organization.

What you are going to do

As data engineering manager, your role is to develop a highly skilled team of data engineers by providing coaching, learning paths and support to enhance their technical and soft skills. You will be responsible for managing approximately 25 employees, including both internal and external hires.

To ensure the bank's data solutions are robust and cost-efficient, you will ensure that your team adheres to the NN Banks data architectural standards, promoting standardization and reusability of data components and capabilities. Additionally, you will encourage your team to design cost-effective data solutions and implement cloud cost-saving measures where necessary.

To comply with regulations and policies such as data privacy, data retention, data access, and backup and recovery, you will facilitate education for your team on these regulations and ensure they implement the necessary measures in NN Banks' data solutions.

Who you are

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in a management role, preferably as a line manager
• Over 5 years of experience in data engineering; knowledge of the Azure data platform being a big plus
• Experience in the financial sector, particularly in the Finance & Risk domain, is a big plus
• You have excellent listening skills and fosters a collaborative and inclusive environment
• Proven ability to coach and mentor, providing constructive feedback to drive continuous improvement
• Strong focus on development, committed to the professional growth of team members
• Empathetic and approachable, capable of building trusting relationships and engaging in courageous conversations

Who you will work with

As a member of the NNB/T&T/Technology risk & finance department, you will report to the technology manager Risk & Finance The department consists of two data engineering managers, one DevOps manager, and one AWS/Full stack engineering manager, all working together to support the risk & finance domains. This department serves as the central hub for data engineers across NN bank EPT's, and you will be responsible for managing a team of approximately 25 data engineers.

Collaboration will be critical in this role, as you will work closely with product owners, data architects, managers of (data) platform services like NN DAP, the data governance team (including the CDO), and stakeholders in the Risk & Finance domain.

Your role will involve providing a balanced and skilled workforce to support the product owners of the data lakes, data factory, model factory, and advanced analytics platform.
Additionally, you will work with the data (solution) architects and the central platform teams to improve efficiency by encouraging knowledge transfer and re-use of components, either by utilizing the centrally provided data components or bringing locally built components to the central code base.
It is also important to interact with colleagues from security and non-financial risk to ensure that all data solutions comply with our IT-risk standards.
