Job Summary

The Direct To Consumer (DTC) Core Strategy Analytics team is looking for a Lead Data Analyst who will help to measure and understand audience behavior and take action to mitigate subscriber churn across a growing ecosystem of Disney’s streaming service offerings (Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+). Our team masters exploratory data analysis, advanced reporting, data visualization and storytelling to deliver actionable insights and provide recommendations to drive business decision-making. This team collaborates cross-functionally across the DTC organization as well as with stakeholders from business units across The Walt Disney Company to generate insightful, compelling, and strategic analyses.

This role will build strong relationships and partner closely with Executive Leadership, Business Operations, Product & Content Programming teams to understand drivers of subscriber health, identify opportunities to improve engagement and retention, and measure impact of strategic business initiatives.  The team’s work will drive the development of business and operational plans that are expected to have broad influence at all levels of the organization. Responsibilities 

  • Conduct analyses to drive valuable business insights, using internal analytics tools and SQL to access and manipulate multivariate data 
  • Ideate and develop new metrics and analytical approaches to better understand audience behavior for both tactical and strategic decision-making 
  • Effectively communicate results through compelling data storytelling across the organization, both in oral presentations and via written report, specifically focusing on supporting Executive Stakeholders 
  • Partner closely with business stakeholders (Product, Business Operations, Programming, Marketing etc.) to identify and unlock opportunities for improved subscriber engagement and retention 
  • Translate complex business questions into SQL including proper cohorting, calculations, filtering criteria and/or aggregations 
  • Partner with Data Science teams to uplevel analyses using clustering/segmentation, regression modeling, and/or predictive modeling 

  

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Analytics, Computer Science, Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, or related field 
  • 7+ years of strategic analysis to inform product or business decision making 
  • 5+ years of hands-on analytical work experience with SQL (ETL ownership, complex transformations, development of “analytical” datasets)  
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to apply business strategy to data analysis and recommendations 
  • Ability to think strategically, analyze and interpret first- and third-party data 
  • Experience manipulating large data sets and interpreting data trends using a multitude of disparate data sources and tools 
  • Expertise with data exploration and data visualization tools like Tableau or Looker 
  • Strong analytical and technical skills to troubleshoot issues, analyze the cause, quickly come-up with possible solutions, document the changes, and communicate organizational impact 
  • Strong experience in documenting the data requirements, data strategy, data rules (standardization, cleansing, and validation) 
  • Experience in the streaming media industry and/or supporting a direct-to-consumer subscription-based product 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience in the technology industry and knowledge of how to build and implement data products 
  • Experience presenting data stories to executive audiences 

The hiring range for this position in Santa Monica is $136,100 to $182,400 per year and in New York is $142,600 to $191,100 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
