Job Description

We are looking for Versatile, curious, and energetic Data Engineer who embraces solving complex challenges.  As a Visa Data Engineer, you will be a member of a versatile development team focused on the Alternate Payments space, you should be able to mine the data, build data pipelines. Should be familiar with Ensuring data quality and integrity by implementing data validation, cleansing, and enrichment processes, Monitoring data pipelines, systems and infrastructure to ensure they are running smoothly and fixing any issues that arise. You will contribute to the innovation, design, and construction of comprehensive Acquirer bundling onboarding and underwriting, customizable risk assessment that is based on data from diverse data sources for Alternate payments customers. These solutions expedite the onboarding and underwriting process, positioning Alternate Payment products for faster growth. The right candidate will also possess Data Science background along with Data engineering, with demonstrated experience in data mining, building pipelines, validations and building, training, implementing, and optimizing advanced AI models for payments. 

 

Essential Functions

  • As a senior data engineer in Alternate payments team, you will play a key role in the innovation, design, and development of comprehensive Acquirer bundling and underwriting solutions. These solutions will feature built-in automated scoring models and customizable risk criteria, leveraging data from diverse sources. 

  • Design and develop data models by mining and building data pipelines, ensuring data quality and integrity by implementing data validation, cleansing, and enrichment processes, Monitoring data pipelines, systems, and infrastructure to ensure they are running smoothly. 

  • Implement the set of services needed to release AI and data science models capable of working with terabytes of data. This includes model related features like one time and ongoing automatic model training, deploying, and monitoring models, as well as platform related features such as model repository, feature stores, data access layer. 

  • Design and develop fine-tune conceptual, logical, and physical data models to map our data requirements into database structures. 

  • Provide technical leadership for efforts around tooling and infrastructure that enable teams to efficiently complete and maintain data engineering projects. 

  • Work and partner with product delivery teams to fully implement the proof of concept and early product in Visa services and products. 

  • Collaborate with data scientists, product owners and architects to deliver the fast-prototyping platform. 

  • Champion innovation across organizations and industries as an expert in the subject, either by providing consulting or by contributing to technology talks and presentations. 

  • Present technical solutions, capabilities, considerations, and features in business terms. Effectively communicate status, issues, and risks in a detailed and timely manner. 

  • Make decisions on tradeoffs/priority during the design and execution, such as tradeoff between performance and flexibility, scope and timelines, availability, and scalability, etc. 

  • Present and demo the research solutions to a committee on the regular basis. 

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
• 8 or more years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor Degree or at least 5 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 2 years of work experience with a PhD


Preferred Qualifications:
• 9 or more years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor Degree or 7 or more relevant years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 3 or more years of experience with a PhD
• Experience programming in at least one or more in Java, Python, Scala.
• Strong understanding of algorithms and data structures.
• Hands-on experience developing and maintaining machine learning lifecycle: data preprocessing and feature extraction, model training and evaluation, and deployment and monitoring.
• Experience in leading, building and supporting scalable and reliable data solutions, AI/machine learning powered systems that can enable fast prototyping and advanced analytics using modern big data and ML/AI technologies (Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, Cloud, No-SQL, TensorFlow, H2O etc.) in an agile manner.
• Practical experience with data modeling concepts for both relational and non-relational databases.
• Hands-on experience and/or academic background partnering with data scientists and can speak knowledgeably about the major machine learning paradigms, algorithms, and software tools.
• Hands-on experience and/or academic background translating data science problem statements into corresponding data, infrastructure, or workflow needs.
• Hands-on experience building and managing data pipelines that move data between systems reliably using tools like Apache Airflow. Additionally, ensuring data quality, data lineage, and data compliance, while implementing robust data security measures, using version control systems like Git, and setting up Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines for automated testing and deployment.
• Knowledge and experience working with Frond-end web application frameworks (Angular/React) along with HTML, CSS, JavaScript is a plus.
• Knowledge and experience working with REST/JSON-RPC services, SQL, and NoSQL databases.
• Familiarity with the associated open-source ecosystem (e.g., mlflow, cortex, seldon, Kubeflow, tfx) is a plus.

Additional Information

Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.

Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting.  The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is 157,100.00 to 227,900.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity. Visa has a comprehensive benefits package for which this position may be eligible that includes Medical, Dental, Vision, 401 (k), FSA/HSA, Life Insurance, Paid Time Off, and Wellness Program.
