Survey engineer for R&D (BE-GM-HPA-2025-17-LD)
Geneva, Switzerland
CERN
CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, is one of the world’s largest and most respected centres for scientific research. Its business is fundamental physics, finding out what the Universe is made of and how it works.Company Description
At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on http://home.cern.
Job Description
Introduction
Join the Geodetic Metrology group at CERN, to develop new alignment methods and tools for the Future Circular Collider (FCC) study. You will be part of the team in charge of the development of the Research and Development for the next generation of colliders. You will actively contribute to design, integrate, develop and qualify concepts of alignment solutions to perform the continuous position monitoring of components. You will collaborate with other research teams, inside and outside CERN, to benefit from the latest developments in this field. Take part!
Functions
As a survey engineer you will:
- Work in a multi-disciplinary team that develops innovative measurement techniques and new instruments for the next generation of colliders, inside and outside CERN, to benefit from the latest outcomes in this field;
- Conceive, design, develop and qualify concepts for high accuracy alignment systems or remote diagnostic tools, in collaboration with specialists in electronics, mechanics and informatics;
- Create all associated documentation: technical specifications, minutes of meetings, measurement reports;
- Present optimization results and insights to various audiences, including surveying engineers, software experts, and non-expert stakeholders, ensuring that the implications and benefits are clearly understood;
- Perform the technical supervision of students and graduates.
