Your Role
The Digital team is looking for an experienced Data Scientist to join our transformation journey whereby analytics is leveraged to deliver predictive models that drive positive business outcomes. You will be supporting analytics initiatives in pricing, underwriting, and claims departments, as well as work closely with business owners to shape and drive analytics initiatives.
You will employ machine learning techniques to analyse diverse data types (structured, unstructured, images, etc.) and create solutions to address real-world business challenges. Additionally, you will lead the entire modelling cycle, including data integration, selection and application of predictive modelling techniques, model validation, deployment, and stakeholder engagement; ensuring that analytics plays a central role in decision-making.
Your Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with business units to comprehensively understand their needs, prioritize business use cases, and develop technical solutions to effectively address their specific challenges. Ensure the solutions are operationalized, allowing for seamless implementation within the organization.
- Conduct thorough analyses and utilize advanced statistical and machine learning techniques to extract valuable insights from complex datasets and generate actionable recommendations for decision-making.
- Develop and implement robust data pre-processing, feature engineering, and model selection methodologies to ensure accurate and reliable predictive models.
- Oversee the complete lifecycle of model development, including data extraction, cleansing, feature creation, algorithm selection, and model evaluation. Provide guidance and mentoring to a team of 3-5 members based in India.
- Present analytical findings and complex technical concepts to a diverse audience, including business users with varying levels of technical expertise, in a clear and concise manner.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including IT and analytics departments, to design and test models for production and ensure their successful integration within existing systems and processes.
- Monitor the performance and usage of deployed models, identifying areas for optimization and improvement. Implement necessary adjustments to enhance model accuracy and effectiveness.
- Generate and maintain comprehensive documentation associated with developed models, including methodology, assumptions, limitations, and interpretation guidelines.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, cutting-edge advancements in advanced analytics and machine learning, and best practices. Drive innovation by proposing and implementing new analytical solutions and methodologies.
Your Skills & Experience
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, Actuarial Science, or a related quantitative field.
- 5+ years of experience in an analytics-driven role, preferably in the insurance industry.
- Solid understanding of ML concepts- supervised and unsupervised learning, NLP, text analytics, and deep learning.
- Proficiency in Python programming; familiarity with PySpark is desirable.
- Experience with Databricks, NLP, GenAI, and MLOps is a plus.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently on analytical tasks, with some guidance if necessary.
- Excellent organizational skills, the ability to work under deadlines in a dynamic environment and effectively manage multiple tasks simultaneously while producing high-quality work.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to convey complex technical concepts effectively.
- Creative mindset to approach problems from different perspectives.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies.
