Job Description

The Role

You will provide technical and project leadership to an established Machine Learning / Data Science capability driving global SEEK growth. You will contribute by performing analytics that result in machine learning products that influence or automate important business decisions; by bringing new technical and delivery capability to the team; by breaking down big rocks into small rocks in Agile fashion to enable team efficiency; and by liaising with Product Managers, Engineers, and partners company-wide to remove impediments. Your breadth and depth of expertise will enable your highly engaged colleagues to grow, and your experience will help the team understand the best time to use and not use each capability. You are motivated by science, i.e., you: think of the simplest practical model that closes a specific knowledge gap; design experiments; learn from the data; provide predictions that matter; and refine your models and hypothesis as needed. You are continuously learning and growing and so is the team.

You will consistently demonstrate technical leadership that advances the team’s ability to deploy innovative decision capabilities that produce great outcomes for the health of the jobs marketplace.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with a variety of teams and functions to research, propose, and build new solutions and evolve existing ones which use AI, broadly defined, to improve a product or outcome.
• Design and conduct online and offline evaluations to compare variants of AI-based product features.
• Become a technical reference to the team on core AI-related topics.
• Sometimes lead and sometimes contribute to AI projects that help the business to achieve strategic priorities.
• Break down problems and projects, estimate and prioritise activities, and propose alternatives to overcome obstacles.
• Resolve impediments by liaising our Engineering and Project Management functions to build relationships within the organisation based on trust.
• Work with Product, Data Science, Engineering, Strategy, and Commercial teams to address a variety of challenging business problems.
• Collaborate with partner teams from across APAC

AIPS has a matrix structure where your direct line manager will act as a coach and technical mentor, but your day-to-day activity will be determined by the squad priorities. Key accountabilities include:

• Forming clear data addressable problem statements from current business problems
• Gathering, validating, and understanding data relevant to the problem statement
• Designing and building data transformation pipelines and machine learning algorithms to solve the business problem
• Working with product management and other business collaborators to review and iterate data products to fit emerging market trends
• Evangelising appropriate ML methods and explaining them, and their associated benefits and limitations to team members from Engineering and Strategy

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

• A MSc or PhD qualification in Computer Science, Computational Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field, or at least 5 years relevant experience
• Professional experience in at least one of: Python, R, SAS, Julia, MATLAB, etc. We are mostly a Python shop
• Strong background in:
• Statistics and Machine Learning
• Algorithms and data structures
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to adapt quickly and thrive in an environment of rapid change and development

Other Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

• Experience with Agile methodology
• Experience with team software development tooling, such as Git, Jira, Confluence, Pytest, etc.
• Depth in some specialised domain, such as Natural Language Processing, Optimisation, Discrete Event Simulation, etc.
• Large-scale software development experience using Go, C/C++, or Java using Git, CI/CD, etc.

The Team

This Data Scientist role sits within the Artificial Intelligence Platform Services (AIPS) team. The team is structured into cross-disciplinary squads with members from Data Science, Product, and Engineering who work together to define, design, build and support end-to-end machine learning based services delivering direct value to hirers and job seekers.

Pricing and Performance (P&P) is the AIPS squad that supports the economics of the marketplace. P&P helps build ad scale, optimises the trade-off between candidate relevance and value creation; and extracts appropriate value when we help to deliver placements
