Role description:

Arcadis is seeking a Climate Data Analyst Intern to join our Water Management, Urban and Coastal Resiliency Team in San Francisco in May, 2025.

With the support of one of the industry’s leading technical and professional staffs, this new team member will support a growing base of projects throughout the country with private, federal, state, and local government clients related to risk assessment, climate adaptation, resilience planning, policy, project development, feasibility studies, engineering design, as well as project funding and implementation. The role offers an excellent opportunity to learn and grow professionally while working on a wide variety of projects alongside a dedicated and experienced staff.  It is critical that this team member be collaborative and communicative in their approach, and that the Arcadis mission to “Improve Quality of Life” resonates deeply with this individual.

Role accountabilities:

.In this role, you'll provide technical support for climate change vulnerability and risk assessments, contributing to projects that address the evolving needs of our diverse and expanding client base. You'll work closely with integrated, multidisciplinary teams of planners, engineers, scientists, economists, policy experts, and other professionals to deliver impactful solutions. Your responsibilities will include collecting, cleaning, analyzing, and interpreting climate data to identify trends, patterns, and potential impacts of climate change, as well as utilizing data visualization tools and dashboards to communicate findings effectively. You will ensure data accuracy through validation and quality checks, prepare technical reports and calculations, and synthesize academic and peer-reviewed research on climate impact quantification.

As part of our collaborative environment, you'll have the opportunity to work on multiple projects simultaneously, participate in client and project development, and assist with proposals and marketing materials when needed. You'll also contribute to team research, development, and thought leadership. Mentorship will play a key role, as you’ll both mentor and be mentored to foster knowledge-sharing and growth within the team. The position may occasionally require travel to local or national client sites, conferences, or internal workshops. Qualifications & Experience:

Required Qualifications

  • 0-5 years’ experience
  • Bachelor of Science in Climate Sciences, Urban Planning, Economics, Public Policy, Engineering, Geology, Computer Science, or related quantitative field
  • Strong experience and comfort working in MS Office Software including Excel
  • Ability to perform descriptive data analysis and create data visualizations
  • Interest in supporting urban and coastal climate adaptation initiatives

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working towards Masters Degree in Climate Sciences, Statistics, Data Science, Engineering, or related field
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis including descriptive statistics, probability theory, and regression analysis.
  • One or more of the following:
  • Experience interpreting or working with IPCC Global Climate Model data or other climate data-related products 
  • Familiar with Python, R, or related coding languages
  • Familiar with ESRI GIS software, specifically ArcGIS Pro
  • Experience with dashboarding software such as PowerBI, Tableau, or KQL
  • Experience working in climate change impact analysis, adaptation planning, or the coastal restoration or flood risk resilience fields

Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
