Overview

We are looking for a Data Leader to spearhead the design and implementation of our modernized, cloud-first data strategy. This role will involve building a new data lake, driving robust data governance practices, and creating enterprise-wide master data sets. As a strategic leader, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to transform how we leverage data to drive decision-making and business growth. This leader will also build the future Data team under IT.

The Data Leader is responsible for designing, creating, and managing CPI data architecture. This role is critical in establishing a solid foundation for data management within the organization, ensuring that data is organized, accessible, secure, and aligned with business objectives. The data architect designs warehouses, file systems and databases, and defines how data will be collected and organized.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of a modernized, cloud-first data strategy.
  • Architect and oversee the implementation of a scalable data lake on modern cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
  • Ensure the integration of existing and new systems into the data architecture.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive data management strategy.
  • Build and lead a high-performing data team, including engineers, analysts, and architects.
  • Work closely with business leaders and IT to align data initiatives with strategic priorities.
  • Evangelize the value of data, fostering a data-driven culture across the organization.
  • Establish and maintain data governance frameworks to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and security.
  • Ensure implementation of data architecture frameworks to implement effective database solutions and models to store company data.
  • Develop policies and procedures for data handling, classification, and compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Oversee the selection and implementation of data management tools and platforms.
  • Partner with analytics teams to provide high-quality, well-structured datasets for reporting, BI tools, and advanced analytics.
  • Drive self-service analytics adoption through tools like Power BI, Tableau, or Looker.

Qualifications

  • Proven expertise with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and modern data architectures.
  • Experience in designing scalable data lakes and data warehouses.
  • Strong knowledge of data governance frameworks and tools (Collibra, Alation, etc.).
  • Hands-on experience with modern data tools (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks, Redshift).
  • Expertise in master data management (MDM) concepts and solutions.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability in data science languages/tools such as SQL, R, SAS, or Excel
  • Experience with database technologies such as SQL, NoSQL, Oracle, Hadoop, or Teradata
  • Understanding of entity-relationship modeling, metadata systems, and data quality tools and techniques
  • Ability to think strategically and relate architectural decisions and recommendations to business needs and client culture
  • Ability to assess traditional and modern data architecture components based on business needs
  • Experience with business intelligence tools and technologies such as ETL, Power BI, and Tableau
  • Ability to regularly learn and adopt new technology, especially in the ML/AI realm
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to synthesize and clearly communicate large volumes of complex information to senior management of various technical understandings
  • Ability to collaborate and excel in complex, cross-functional teams involving data scientists, business analysts, and stakeholders
  • Ability to guide solution design and architecture to meet business needs

 

Requirements:

 

  • 10+ years of experience in data leadership roles, including building data lakes, implementing data governance, and master data management.
  • B.S. or M.S. Degree in computer science, data science, engineering or related field

 

Physical Demands:

  • This position requires; ability to work from home; hours are minimum 40 hours per week during company’s regular business hours however evening and/or weekend work may be required as job duties demand;
  • Work is in a typical office environment; prolonged sitting required (1-2 hours at a time); ability to move around the office to attend meetings; deliver items; gather supplies; set up meetings; etc. lifting up to 20 lbs occasionally.
  • Work environment: Usual office setting; close contact with employees for long periods of time. The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal.
  • Position may require minimal travel by car and/or plane

This role requires the ability to work from home in a virtual environment, where the following is required;

  • reliable high-speed Internet access (hot-spot not acceptable)
  • dedicated distraction-free home work environment
