The OHSU Knight Cancer Institute, known as one of the pioneers in personalized cancer medicine, is an international leader in research and cancer treatment. Function/Duties of Position

We are seeking an entry-level Computational Biologist to be part of our collaborative project team focusing on advancing early cancer detection. This is a limited-duration position, anticipated to be 9 months in length. Under close supervision, you will support research by data preparation, analysis, and presentation. Entry Computational Biologists are assigned to program projects as needed. You will have a detailed knowledge of all aspects of data analysis, and you will be comfortable working both individually and in highly collaborative teams. You will possess good organizational and interpersonal skills.

 

 Data Organization and Management

  • Clean and manage metadata
  • Access, store, and document raw data
  • Coordinate with project team members
  • Meet publication requirements, including data and code repositing

Data Analysis (under close supervision)

  • Sample/sequencing quality control assessment
  • Implement existing analytic packages and workflows
  • Adapt existing resources as needed to meet project needs

 

Technical Writing/Communication

  • Present at regular team meetings
  • Clear code documentation
  • Build, maintain, augment shared workflows
  • Support manuscript preparation

Career Development

  • Participate in activities that enhance general knowledge or ability to do assigned work

Required Qualifications

Education & experience:

  • Bachelor's in Computational Biology or related field OR Equivalent combination of training and experience

 

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Skills in a high-level programming language (R or Python)
  • An understanding of foundational statistics and ways to implement them for data analysis
  • Good communication, analytical and organizational skills, both written and verbal

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant coursework at the postgraduate level
  • Team science experience in a collaborative research environment
  • Experience analyzing ‘omic (e.g. genomic or similar) datasets
  • Experience with high performance computing and environment management
  • A passion for open-access innovation
