Role Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Test Engineer is a key position in the development and validation of devices for the animal health industry.

This role is ideal for a hands-on engineer who enjoys working with electro-mechanical test hardware while also leveraging programming skills to automate test systems.

This position will work as an independent contributor and technical resource, focusing on developing test hardware, supporting existing test systems, executing tests, and performing objective data analysis to drive product design improvements for Zoetis.

The role is part of an engineering group working toward goals resulting from Research and Development, Quality Control, and Manufacturing needs. While this position does not include formal supervisory responsibilities, the engineer will frequently collaborate with and influence team members' efforts throughout project execution.

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

The Test Engineer will:

·       Develop and program automated test systems using National Instruments solutions, Raspberry PIs, PLCs or other similar platforms to improve efficiency and repeatability in testing.

·       Integrate sensors, actuators, and measurement systems into test platforms for automated data collection.

·       Write and optimize test scripts in LabVIEW, Python, or similar to automate data acquisition and analysis.

·       Assemble, configure, and troubleshoot electro-mechanical test setups, including fixtures, mounting hardware, load systems, and wiring sensors, actuators, and control systems.

·       Complete validation test plans, perform analysis of data, and assess results to deliver clear findings based on statistics.

·       Provide or support detailed reports in written and verbal format for engineering, biological, and non-technical audiences.

·       Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure test methods align with real-world usage profiles (RWUP), product requirements, and subject-matter expert information.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required: BS in Engineering (preferred: Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Biomechanical) with 3+ years of test engineering experience in an electro-mechanical device development environment.

Preferred: BS in Engineering (preferred: Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Biomechanical) with 5+ years of test engineering experience in an electro-mechanical device development environment.

 

 

 

 

 

TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIREMENTS

Required:

·       Strong skills in critical thinking, problem-solving, planning and organizing, and decision-making.

·       Hands-on experience assembling, troubleshooting, and optimizing electro-mechanical test setups, including sensors, actuators, and load application systems.

·       Experience or familiarity with programming and automating test systems using National Instruments solutions, Raspberry Pi, PLCs, or other similar platforms.

·       Knowledge of Python for data analysis, scripting applications, and structured data management, with a willingness to expand expertise.

·       Familiarity with statistical analysis techniques (e.g., tests for means/variance, categorical analysis, Gauge R&R).

·       Experience integrating sensors, actuators, and control systems into automated test platforms.

·       Multi-disciplinary test development with verifiable knowledge in at least one area: software development, CAD design in SolidWorks, or electrical schematics.

Preferred:

·       Experience managing and organizing test data using Python, Azure, SQL, or other cloud-based/database tools to ensure accessibility, traceability, and efficient data retrieval for test and reliability analysis.

·       Experience with PLCs and embedded controllers for automation and test sequencing (e.g., WAGO, Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Raspberry Pi, Arduino).

·       Knowledge of reliability engineering tools such as root cause analysis (5-Why, Ishikawa diagrams), Weibull prediction, and warranty estimation.

·       Familiarity with ALT, HALT, HASS, or other environmental testing methodologies.

·       Experience with project management tools such as JIRA or equivalent workflow tracking systems.

ASQ SSGB, SSBB, or other similar certifications in quality or reliability engineering.
