Why join CBC/Radio-Canada

Digital is a key part of our present and our future. CBC/Radio-Canada’s strategy is focused on becoming the first organization to provide a digital platform that delivers unique content and experiences for our audiences, by telling stories that reflect who they are.

There is an opportunity for this to be a full-time teleworking position. Work arrangements will be discussed with hiring managers per departmental guidelines.

Your role

As Data Scientist, you apply machine learning models to answer complex questions and work on projects and/or cross-functional models capable of being used by multiple stakeholders: segmentations, data prediction models, churn, marketing mix models, etc.

You are responsible for implementing best practices in advanced analytics within the team, and help define business rules for stakeholders’ activation initiatives.

Responsibilities:

You will meet Radio-Canada’s strategic product, marketing and revenue analytics needs by:

  • Identifying, cleaning up, transforming and synthesizing large volumes of data through operations performed in our Big Data environment or analytical tools.
  • Using machine learning models to answer complex questions in an automated way.
  • Creating predictive audience creation models in data management platforms for activation, marketing and customization initiatives.
  • Developing and implementing marketing attribution models (such as marketing mix models).
  • Identifying relationships between our products (conducting market basket analysis to identify associations between content and create predictive models).
  • Working closely with the Data Integration team and Big Data developers to determine the strategy for regular data collection, processing and implementation.
  • Presenting your analysis and findings to a varied audience that may include product managers, strategists, media line directors and marketing/communications managers.
  • Establishing best analytics practices within the team by designing technical templates and ad hoc documentation.
  • Producing and maintaining interfaces via Power Platform (Power BI and Power Automate) to provide standalone access to model results in an automated way.
  • Maintaining good relationships with your internal clients by adopting an advisory stance.
  • Monitoring changes in the data source structure and conducting impact analysis for your area and your models.
  • Paying special attention to privacy laws and policies.

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Five or more years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Graduate degree in a relevant field (business intelligence, economics, mathematics, statistics, IT, etc.).
  • Highly proficient knowledge of SQL and Python (pandas/PySpark) (R an asset).
  • Experience creating marketing mix modelling (MMM).
  • In-depth knowledge of marketing measurement (attribution, lift studies, etc.).
  • Good knowledge of web analytics measurement tools (Google/Adobe Analytics, A/B test platforms).
  • Good knowledge of statistics.
  • Proficient knowledge of machine learning (experience using multiple advanced analysis techniques or machine learning algorithms).
  • Knowledge of MLOps (MLFlow) an asset.
  • Good knowledge of Power BI (visual design and DAX; PowerQuery/M an asset).
  • Experience using k-means clustering and SVM classifiers an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of data management platforms (DMP/CDP) and their APIs an asset.
  • Ability to act in an advisory and recommendatory role with internal clients.
  • Ability to explain statistical concepts to non-experts.
  • Ability to work as a team player.
  • Keen interest in digital and emerging technologies.
  • Media industry experience an asset.
  • Familiarity with Radio-Canada platforms and programming an asset.
  • Bilingualism (English/French) required.

Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.

We thank all applicants for their interest, but only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.

As part of our recruitment process, candidates who advance to the next

step will be asked to complete a background check. This includes:

  • A mandatory Criminal record check.

  • Other background checks may be conducted based on the operational requirements of the position.
