Job Summary
We are seeking a results-oriented and experienced Senior Manager to lead our data engineering team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background in data engineering, including Data Orchestration, Data Pipelines, Medallion Architecture, and Data Governance, coupled with proven leadership capabilities. This role involves strategic planning, mentoring, and fostering a collaborative environment while delivering high-quality data solutions to support business goals.
Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of data engineers, fostering growth and promoting a collaborative culture.
- Oversee hiring, onboarding, and professional development of team members.
- Set clear goals and expectations for the team, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
- Define and execute the technical strategy for data engineering in alignment with business needs.
- Drive the design, development, and maintenance of scalable data pipelines and workflows using batch and streaming technologies.
- Oversee the implementation and optimization of Apache Airflow for orchestrating and automating data workflows.
- Provide technical leadership in maintaining Medallion (Bronze, Silver, Gold) architecture to ensure organized and high-quality data.
- Establish and enforce best practices for data governance, ensuring data integrity, compliance, and quality.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define and track data quality metrics.
- Lead the development of data pipelines to process and analyze billing data, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Build and optimize data solutions to support customer analytics, enabling actionable insights into customer behavior and trends.
- Collaborate with finance, product, and marketing teams to define requirements and deliver tailored data solutions.
- Work closely with data analysts, data scientists, and business stakeholders to understand and prioritize data needs.
- Act as a bridge between technical teams and business leaders, ensuring seamless communication and delivery of solutions.
- Stay updated with the latest technologies and trends in data engineering and recommend relevant tools and practices.
- Promote the adoption of CI/CD practices in data engineering workflows to enhance reliability and efficiency.
- Drive the continuous improvement of team processes, tools, and methodologies.
Experience and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
- 8+ years of experience in data engineering, with at least 3 years in a leadership or managerial role.
- Proven experience in building and managing teams focused on data pipelines, orchestration, and governance.
- Hands-on experience with Apache Airflow, Medallion architecture, and distributed data processing tools (e.g., Spark, Databricks, dbt).
- Expertise in cloud data platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and database technologies (SQL, NoSQL).
- Strong programming skills in Python or other general-purpose programming languages.
- In-depth understanding of data governance principles, data cataloging, and data quality management.
- Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and interpersonal skills.
Nice to Have:
- Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Looker).
- Experience with Terraform, Snowflake, and AWS managed data services.
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines for data engineering and infrastructure as code.
- Strong understanding of compliance requirements and their impact on data practices.
- Experience growing data practices and technologies within large organizations.
