About the Role

Nottingham City Council are committed to the improvement of public health through the use of data, intelligence and evidence based decision making. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled and motivated  Data Analyst to join our team. In this role you will support the provision of robust analysis and insights   across the whole Public Health team, work on our Joint Strategic Needs Assessment and Health Needs Assessments, and create innovative and accessible reports to deliver insights to our colleagues and stakeholders to help inform actions to improve population health and reduce health inequalities.

  • Maintenance and management of the Public Health database as directed by the Senior Principal Analyst
  • Downloading, reformatting and manipulation of data to produce charts, tables and complex reports in support of Public Health projects
  • The development of SQL scripts to extract and analyse health datasets, including complex statistical calculations such as age/sex standardised rates and confidence intervals
  • To work with the Senior Principal Analyst on a variety of projects requiring advanced technical skills such as SQL, advanced Excel and PowerBI to improve access to data
  • To support colleagues across Public Health with the interpretation and use of data

 The ideal candidate will:

  • Have experience of working with NHS, Public Health or other health related data
  • Have experience of utilising large databases or datasets e.g. Hospital Episode Statistics (HES) and Civil Registration datasets
  •  Have demonstrable experience of the use of T-SQL, MS SQL Server Management Studio, MS PowerBI and other business intelligence tools
  • Be a graduate in, or have equivalent experience of, a numerate or analytical discipline

The role will be based within our Public Health Knowledge and Intelligence team but will support all portfolios within the Public Health team as required. Please click on the following link for a short introduction to our Public Health team: What is Public Health - VEED
