Purpose:

The Automation & Industrial Networking Engineer II plays a crucial role in developing, deploying, and maintaining machine data systems and visualizations.  This position works with consultants, vendors, electrical contractors, and cross-functionally with internal teams to ensure project objectives are achieved and operational programs are maintained.  

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for systems engineering and providing support in the areas of automation, machine networking, and computer systems to contribute to the achievement of the plant’s safety, quality, sustainability, and budget objectives.
  • Develop, deploy, and maintain Ignition projects and data visualizations.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders and technical teams to gather requirements for data collection, dashboards, and data visualization displays.
  • Work with OEMs to establish and enforce communication hardware requirements for data collection and remote support.
  • Configure communication devices as needed and work with internal resources or vendors for installation.
  • Collaborate with IT resources and technical teams to establish internal and external equipment communication.
  • Track and oversee IT related items such as equipment IP addresses and VLAN assignment.
  • Monitor and update servers utilized for edge gateways, equipment program backups, and software licenses.
  • Collaborate with the IT department on regular maintenance and upgrade of PC’s, servers, software, and other associated equipment.
  • Participate in the development and troubleshooting of Level 0 (field devices), Level I (controllers), and Level II (control networks) devices and systems.
  • Stay current with new and evolving technologies and look for opportunities in the development of digital capabilities via artificial intelligence, machine learning, and industry standard methodologies.
  • Create training instructions and standard operating procedures and assist with training as needed.
  • Develop and lead capital projects to advance machine networking, data collection and data visualizations.
  • Responsible for adherence to all Berry, industry, and/or regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain and enforce all company safety, environmental, and department of health requirements.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • Associate’s degree with 2+ years of experience in Automation/Integration or bachelor’s degree in disciplines related to automation, controls, computer science, Information Technology (IT) or equivalent work experience.

Practical:

  • Individual must be “Safety and Team Oriented”, a “Good Communicator”, and possess “Project Management” skills.
  • Proficient with MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint.
  • 2+ years’ experience configuring and developing applications using Ignition (by Inductive Automation).
  • Experience with Ignition Vision and Perspective development environments.
  • Experience with OPC UA and MQTT.
  • Experience with Ignition Edge and MES/IIoT modules.
  • Experience with SQL Databases (SQL Server, MySQL, Postgres, MariaDB, MongoDB).
  • Basic knowledge of PLC tag structures and communications.
  • Experience with the installation and configuration of Ignition SCADA systems.
  • Proficiency in identifying and implementing drivers for PLC data ingestion.
  • Strong understanding of IIoT networking, including firewalls.
  • Configure communication such as eWon, AB NATr, and Siemens XC20X.
  • Understand High and Low voltage controls.
  • Ability to troubleshoot systems utilizing skills associated with software, mechanical, and/or electrical methods.
  • Programing experience in PLC programing languages, structured text, and python.

 

Physical Expectations:

  • Hearing sufficient to recognize and respond to shouted warnings, alarms and horns on forklifts.
  • Stereo optical vision of 20/40 or better and peripheral vision of 70 degrees or greater and ability to read 10–12-point font at a distance of 12-18 inches.
  • Able to see and identify colors. (Complete an “Ishiharar” color Vision Test)
  • Able to use both hands for effective manipulation of tools/parts.
  • Ability to work at heights (with or without fall protection).
  • Must not be at risk of sudden alterations in consciousness.
  • Ability to lift 35 pounds a minimum of 10 times per day.
  • Ability to push/pull loads of approx. 45 lbs. at a minimum of 10 times per day/shift.
  • Able to work in extremes of heat/cold.
  • Able to work overhead or in awkward positions on a frequent basis.
  • Ability to occasionally climb on and off a forklift safely and without assistance.
