Engineering Manager (GIS, Data Engineering)

What's the role?

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced engineering manager to build and lead a new data engineering team focusing on GIS (Geographic Information System) data publication. The goal for this team will be to develop and operate a continuously running service that produces HERE content and location services and makes them accessible by Esri customers.

Your Responsibilities:

• Build, mentor, and manage a high-performing data engineering team

• Conduct regular one-on-ones, provide feedback, and support career development for team members

• Set up team processes and culture to deliver high-quality and on schedule/budget outcomes

• Collaborate with stakeholders (Product Mgmt, …) to define engineering roadmap and priorities

• Review and evaluate technical outcomes of the team (reviews of architecture , design, infrastructure, ..)

• Hands-on coding as required to support the team and ensure successful results

• Work with external partners as needed to deliver the overall solution and to accelerate our speed to deliver new data to customers

Team Responsibilities:

• Develop and operate data pipelines transforming HERE location data for consumption in GIS use cases

• Design and implement robust data transformation solutions for Esri customers

• Develop and optimize scripts and tools using tooling such as Python, ArcPy, GeoPandas

• Ensure the integrity and accuracy of data transformations

• Collaborate with other teams, including external partners, to deliver the data to Esri customers

• Deploy and operate the pipelines to AWS using IaC (Infrastructure as Code) tooling

Who are you?

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Experience with GIS concepts, processes and tooling (ArcGIS)
• Experience working with location data (e.g. maps, addresses, POIs, etc. in various schemas (GeoJSON, FGDB, etc.)) and using packages such as ArcPy and GeoPandas
• Demonstrated expertise in Python programming, with the ability to write clean, efficient, and maintainable code for complex systems and a deep understanding of advanced Python concepts (e.g., asynchronous programming, memory optimization, and design patterns)
• Experience with common data stores ( relational databases, distributed databases)
• Experience with CI/CD systems such as GitLab, GitHub
• Experience with ETL processes and tooling (AWS Glue, FME, etc.
• Strong leadership and team management skills
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities
• Proven experience in data transformation projects
• Strong communication and collaboration skills in English

Additional competencies:

• Familiarity with other GIS software and tools

• GISP certification

• Experience working with 3D content, such as 3D buildings

• Experience with cloud infrastructure, such as AWS or Azure

• Experience in web development scripting languages such as JavaScript
