About the role:

Barry Callebaut Digital (BC Digital) is on a mission to lead the digital revolution in the chocolate industry, and we're looking for a [Director/Head of] Data Stewardship, to lay the foundation for data-driven decision-making. Reporting directly to the  Director of Data Governance, Strategy & Design, you will have the unique opportunity to shape our digital future based on best-in-class data governance. You will drive data governance across Barry Callebaut, leading a team of Data Stewards and Custodians and ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and accessibility of data assets. This position will play a key role in turning our aspirations of data-driven operations into reality and lifting Barry Callebaut to the next Level.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Oversee the Data Stewardship unit at Barry Callebaut, directly reporting to the Director of Data Governance, Strategy & Design, while ensuring the usability, accessibility, quality, and trustability of Barry Callebaut's data.
  • Lead the development and implementation of our data governance, data quality, and data management strategies, ensuring that they align with business goals.
  • Lead the team of Data Stewardship, fostering a culture of continuous improvement by providing data stewardship best practices.
  • Oversee a team of data stewards and data custodians, creating and maintaining data quality initiatives to ensure the accuracy, consistency, and reliability of data across the organization.
  • Lead and guide your team to follow the latest trends in data stewardship solutions, stay up-to-date, and implement new data management technologies and tools to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Closely collaborate with business stakeholders ensuring the usage of defined data governance methodologies.
  • Implement effective metadata management on our data assets (e.g. data definitions, etc.).
  • Communicate data stewardship goals, progress, and challenges to stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Support relevant audits on data stewardship.
  • Lead and manage the Data Stewardship team, providing direction, mentoring, and support.
  • Collaborate with Domain Data Owners & business partners to align on a roadmap on metadata, business glossary, and data product implementation.
  • Manage external parties that support metadata/data models/data product implementations.
  • This is a global leadership role with key stakeholders located in Brussels, Zurich, and other locations of our global footprint, and thus requires up to 25% travel.
     

About you:

  • Graduate degree in IT/technology, data, computer science, engineering, business administration, or a comparable field.
  • Proficiency in English.
  • Significant experience in building and leading data management/ governance teams in the food & beverages / manufacturing industry (additional relevant industry experience is a plus).
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, including managing multi-cultural, dispersed teams in senior roles.
  • Experienced in transforming data governance and quality towards best-in-class capabilities.
  • Extensive experience with data governance and quality frameworks.
  • Deep understanding of roles and processes around data governance and stewardship incl. best practices.
  • Experienced in leading a cross-functional team and driving change collaboratively on a global scale.
  • Able to set and communicate a clear vision for data stewardship that aligns with the company’s objectives.
