Director, Data Science

Position Overview

As the Director of Data Science at Zelis, you will lead our data science team to drive innovative solutions and strategies that leverage data to enhance our business operations and decision-making processes. You will be responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of advanced analytics, machine learning models, and data-driven insights that support our strategic goals. This role requires a visionary leader with a deep understanding of data science, strong leadership skills, and the ability to collaborate across departments to achieve business objectives.

What You’ll Do

Leadership and Strategy

• Lead and mentor a team of data scientists and analysts, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning.
• Develop and execute the data science strategy in alignment with the company's overall business objectives.
• Identify opportunities for data-driven improvements and innovations across the organization.
• Collaborate with senior leadership to define and prioritize data science initiatives that drive business value.

Technical Expertise

• Oversee the development and deployment of machine learning models and advanced analytics solutions.
• Ensure the quality and accuracy of data used for analysis and modeling.
• Stay current with industry trends and advancements in data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence.
• Provide technical guidance and support to the data science team on complex projects and challenges.

Project Management

• Manage multiple data science projects from inception to completion, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with business goals.
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams to integrate data science solutions into business processes and systems.
• Monitor project progress and performance, making adjustments as needed to achieve desired outcomes.

Communication and Collaboration

• Communicate complex data science concepts and results to non-technical stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders across the organization to understand their data needs and challenges.
• Advocate for data-driven decision-making and promote the value of data science within the company.

What You’ll Bring to Zelis

• Master's or Ph.D. in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.
• 10+ years of experience in data science, with a proven track record of leading successful data science projects and teams.
• 5+ years of experience in a leadership role, managing and mentoring data science professionals.
• Expertise in machine learning, statistical analysis, and data mining techniques.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, and SQL.
• Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) and big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark).
• Strong understanding of data engineering principles and experience working with large datasets.
• Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team.
• Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
• Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex information to a variety of audiences.
• Proven ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
