About OT&DS:

OT&DS (Operations Transformation and Digital Strategy) is an innovation engine for Amgen Operations to accomplish its business priorities through application of novel digital solutions. The team’s scope encompasses Amgen’s end-to-end Operations across our global manufacturing network, with direct connections into each of the other Operations functions, including Quality, Process Development, Global Supply Chain, Global Engineering, and Manufacturing. Because of its position in the organization, OT&DS provides its team members with a unique breadth of exposure, with opportunities to apply data science skills shape Amgen’s digital strategy and to engage with peers and leaders through the day-to-day execution of your work.

About this role:

As a Data and AI intern, you will work in a Product Team collaborating with other talented Data Scientists, Data Engineers, and Product Owners to design, develop and deploy digital solutions to solve complex, cross-functional problems for Amgen Operations. Examples of previous and current product domains include plant scheduling, supply chain management, post-market surveillance, environmental sustainability, and inventory/scrap. During the internship will own the delivery of key analyses and feature components for the product you are working on.

Key responsibilities:

Problem Identification: Engage with the product owner and stakeholders to identify pain points and problems existing in processes. Collaborate with team members to brainstorm and come up with innovative solutions.

Data Exploration: Dive into complex, multidimensional datasets from diverse data sources. Employ data wrangling techniques to clean, preprocess and integrate data, ensuring its reliability and relevance for analytics.

Advanced Analytics and Data Modeling: Employ techniques in statistics, machine learning, AI, and data visualization to deliver valuable products. Participate in building models with other fellow Data Scientists that drive proactive decision-making, resource allocation, and process improvement.

Agile Solution Development: Collaborate with product owner and SMEs to translate problems into digital solutions. Embrace an agile development approach and iterate solutions based on feedback from end users.

Communication and Collaboration: Present your solutions to non-technical stakeholders and communicate complex technical concepts to them. Collaborate seamlessly with other data scientists and engineers. Share your insights and learning.

Basic Qualifications

Amgen requires that all individuals applying for an undergrad internship or a co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria:

  • 18 years or older
  • Currently enrolled in a full-time Bachelor’s Degree program from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent
  • Completion of one year of study from an accredited college or university prior to the internship commencing
  • Enrolled in a full-time Bachelor’s degree program following the potential internship or co-op assignment with an accredited college or university
  • Must not be employed at the time the internship starts
  • Student must be located in the United States for the duration of the internship OR co-op

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with statistics, optimization, and Machine Learning.
  • Experience with using AI APIs and developing AI use cases
  • Experience with programming (Python and associated data packages such as Pandas and Pyspark will be a plus)
  • Experience with data visualization
  • Independent, self-motivated, organized, and able to multi-task
  •  Skilled in communication, facilitation, and collaboration Willing to embrace a team-based culture that relies on collaboration for effective decision-making
  • Curiosity, willingness to ask for help and to learn from others, enthusiasm to share unique knowledge with other team members
  • Familiarity with Agile and Scrum (optional – training can be pursued on the job)

The base pay range for this opportunity in the U.S. is $24.70 - $28.30 per hour.
