This is a professional internship with a heavy concentration utilizing industry-standard methods to analyze trends and associated metrics utilizing PowerBI, Excel, and Smartsheets. Work will require the understanding and use of multiple databases, programs, and applications utilized by Fleet. While this position will have autonomy, it will have significant direction and support from management and leadership. Candidates will be assigned a mentor who will be their coach for meeting preparations, presentations, and overall professional guidance.

Department Responsibilities:

  • Research, gather, and analyze data from various Fleet programs in an ongoing effort to improve processes, identify trends, and clean data within Fleet applications.
  • Create reports, Dashboards, and processes to meet the needs of Fleet. Meet and partner with Fleet and County personnel to gather needed data and processes.
  • Present findings and recommendations to Fleet and County personnel during informal and formal meetings.
  • Collaborate with your department colleagues to make and influence real changes.

Internship Program Responsibilities:

  • A presentation to the County Administrator and other County Leadership staff is required at the close of the internship program on Friday, August 8, 2025.
  • Participate in all organized intern events and trainings.

About You

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least 18 years old, or age 16-17 with parental consent.
  • High school diploma, or equivalent (if applicable).
  • Eligible to work in the United States – we love local, national, and international students!
  • Active, enrolled student. Must be currently enrolled in a college/university, seeking a graduate (post-baccalaureate) degree or senior level graduate studies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in college or university at least in junior year or above in Health Informatics, Data Analytics/Strategy or Data Science degree, Risk & Insurance Management or Risk Analyst type of degree. Business, Finance, Statistics, Public Administration, or Computer Science.

About Everything Else
  • Program Dates: The 2025 internship program will begin on May 19, 2025 and end on August 8, 2025.  
  • Internship Hours: 40 hours/week, Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.; some departments vary. In-person, on-site at our various locations in Sarasota County.
  • Location: [insert primary work location address]
  • Pay Range: $13 per hour (high school student) up to $20 per hour (Grad/Masters student), based on your credit hours earned. Returning interns earn an additional $0.50/hour, up to $1.00 for those returning for the third year.
