Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems (NGAS) has an opening for a Sr. Principal Data Scientist to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. The position requires on-site support located in St. Augustine, FL where technology and teamwork come together.

The selected candidate will become part of Northrop Grumman’s Manufacturing Engineering Team working in a collaborative environment while promoting a positive and proactive teamwork environment.

Data Scientist job duties involve the following:

• Creates data mining architectures/models/protocols, statistical reporting, and data analysis methodologies to identify trends in large data sets.
• Analysis may have many applications such as to address a business issue or provide a competitive advantage for the organization.
• Requires strong statistical and data visualization skills.
• Provide technical leadership for multiple teams of data scientists, to ensure projects are delivered on schedule and to quality, and manage any changes to data science work packages
• Contribute subject matter expertise into bids, proposals and studies, and growing a portfolio of projects, using customer knowledge to ensure proposals meet their needs
• Summarize and socialize data, make conclusions and provide direction on problems identified.
• Strong communication & visualization of the data to articulate the findings. - Develop and implement data collection systems, data analytics and other strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and quality.
• Design, model, and document the logical and conceptual relationship of data and database changes for metrics and analytics.
• Help facilitate conforming production tools and products.

What you need to be successful in the role: ​

• ​Strong problem-solving skills and root-cause analysis to ensure that curated data is accurate, repeatable, and explainable
• Ability to communicate data and engineering analysis regarding conclusions that were reached.
• Ability to create and present data reports to support investigations.
• Development /programming of tools to improve pipeline efficiency, eliminate repetitive tasks, and implement new analysis tools/techniques.
• Prioritization skills to manage workload and make sound decisions for assigned team's data analysis activities.

Basic Qualifications: 

• Bachelor's degree with 8 years related experience in engineering OR a Master's degree with 6 years of related engineering experience.
• Experience in Computer Aided Measurement Systems (CAMS), survey and/or measuring tools, Metrology and or related experience.
• Experience in gathering data, analyzing, and reporting to stakeholders.
• Working knowledge of modeling and inspection databases (Polyworks, NX, Teamcenter).
• Ability to work any shift as needed by the business.
• Ability to work for extended periods of time at a workstation on a computer or similar device for up to 10 hours / duration of shift. Occasional extended periods of standing, bending, kneeling
• Your ability to obtain and/or maintain the final adjudicated government Secret clearance, and any program access(es) required for the position within a reasonable amount of time, as determined by the company.

Preferred Qualifications:        

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering/Computer Science/Data Science.
• Active Secret clearance.
• Experience in shop floor production operations.
• Experience defining solution architecture to drive schedule and cost reductions while maintaining quality.
• Experience with creating work instructions to collect inspection data.
• Experience assisting in dispositions of non-conformances or Root Cause Corrective Actions (RCCA’s).
• Experience setting up tooling (i.e. locating assembly fixtures).
• Knowledge of measurements such as Surface Profile, Discrete Point, Hole Location, Part Position, and Mold Line Loft.
• Experience utilizing SMR, T-Probe, T-Scan, ROMER Arm, and Laser Radar measurement equipment.
• Experience developing software/tool sets to improve efficiency, eliminate repetitive tasks, and implement new analysis tools/techniques.
• Understanding of GD&T, build sequence, tooling, and bill of materials

Salary Range: $130,500.00 - $195,700.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
